The Dreamcast was Sega's final home console, released in 1999 in North America. Its memory card, the Visual Memory Unit, or VMU, had the unique capability of receiving minigames downloaded from the main console games. In an era where community support for the Dreamcast has never been more accessible, the VMU is rather lacking by comparison, requiring any potential developers to learn how to program in its unconventional assembly language. To help remedy this, I developed a C-based programming language for the VMU, named Chao. Using Chao, one only needs to know the basic skills of C programming in order to create a working VMU program.
