There were 629 dissertations, only five of them in music therapy. The North Central region and twenty top universities (especially the University of Michigan) dominated production, which consisted predominantly of Ph.D. degrees earned by male authors (all comparisons p < .001). There was a wide range of topics, with biographies increasing in frequency over time (p < .01).
