REACH is an entrepreneurial community action program founded by Brett Fitzgerald and Kira Hoover. A third program partner, Mona Dixon, joined the team in May 2012. REACH enhances the potential success of high school teenagers in the Teen Center at the underserved Boys & Girls Club \u2014 Ladmo Branch in Tempe, Arizona. REACH strives to empower students to attend college, develop stronger leadership skills, and become more involved in their community. The program provides an opportunity for at-risk youth to engage in high caliber leadership discussions, receive college mentoring, organize and take on group designed and self-driven community action projects, and to connect with Arizona State University's community and resources. According to the Bureau of Statistics, 77.2% of African American and 40.6% of Hispanic children live below the poverty level. Poverty increases the relative discrepancy of opportunities across races and often breeds segregation. In order to foster a community of young leaders who embrace diversity, we must act to prevent racism, bigotry and prejudice at a young age and encourage all students to see themselves as leaders and scholars in the community. REACH is a community of young individuals who embrace diversity and understand the many possibilities when working together with other ethnic groups. REACH works with multiple ASU communities including the ASU Pat Tillman Scholars, Delta Sigma Pi \u2014 Gamma Omega, Barrett, The Honors College and W. P. Carey School of Business to organize and lead a group of teens through a remarkable curriculum that will shape the way they view cultural diversity, educational achievement, and leadership. The weekly meetings consist of discussions, creative team-building and critical thinking exercises and cultural awareness experiences. Demonstrating to the teens, administrators, volunteers, and mentors the rich culture that Tempe has to offer and the skills and experience that they have to offer their community as well.

The following thesis analyzed the non-profit organization, Welcome to America Project (WTAP) to understand and identify effective marketing techniques for non-profits. The primary focus of the WTAP, a non-profit organization helping newly arrived refugees in Arizona is to provide them with basic necessities by collecting monetary and in-kind donations from volunteers. WTAP's limited resources require the organization to use creative marketing techniques to solicit donations effectively and efficiently. Through an analysis of WTAP's current marketing techniques and the marketing methods of three benchmark organizations, Project C.U.R.E., Feed My Starving Children, and Maggie's Place, we have identified several opportunities for WTAP to consider.

As technologies advance, so does the curiosity and exploration of humankind. There are many domains across this planet that are unexplored \u2014 the depths of Earth's ocean being one of the most predominant. While the ocean covers seventy percent of Earth's surface, a vast ninety-five percent of this realm remains untouched and unseen by the human eye. The biggest causality of this can be identified in the limitations of current technologies and the large expense associated with delving into these dangerous and uncharted areas. Underwater communication between unmanned devices is the solution to this problem. With the oceanic deployment of wirelessly connected unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), researchers can limit risk to human safely and retrieve invaluable oceanographic data from unimaginable depths. However, before this system can be physically deployed, the network topology and environmental interactions must be simulated. More specific to the application, how does attenuation of optical propagation degrade between transmissions? A widely used open source network simulator is the ns series: ns-1, ns-2, and ns-3. Ns-3 is the most recent version, and is a valuable tool for modeling network interactions. However, underwater simulation proposes a limitation \u2014 a three-dimensional consideration for pressure. To properly model this interaction, it is vital that an extension to ns-3 be provided in order to account for the affects pressure has on the propagation of a signal at varying depths.

The amount of professional athletes, who declare bankruptcy after retiring from the sport they love, is now occurring at an epidemic level. The amount of income athletes earn in America, the fame they achieve and the relationships they establish, should provide them with all the resources they need so this problem never plagues their lives. The single greatest influencer in an athlete's life could be their agent. This presents the agent an opportunity to guide their client, and friend, to a future of financial security for the rest of their lives. Game (NOT) Over, will discuss what is required to prepare for and represent an athlete in a professional sports league by always preserving the athletes best interest. In order to achieve a desirable outcome for an athlete, the agent will consistently focus on their own and their client's unique qualities, while paying close attention to the cost and rules within the industry. Ultimately, the agent must proactively pursue ways to derive alternative income streams for a life after sports. The guidance and support should not end when the athlete receives their last paycheck; they need an agent for life.

Humanitarian aid organizations, while providing aid services, require inputs and utilize business processes like other for-profit firms. Many charity organizations depend on donations for revenue. The level of public trust in charities can affect donations. To support the American public and protect individuals from dishonest charity agencies, charity watchdog organizations publish ratings of charities to assist the public in donation decisions. The ratings focus on a variety of topics orienting how much of donation funds go directly to the cause not administrative or soliciting costs. In the American Red Cross, a new process was engineered to make procuring consulting services more efficient and cost effective. This project was focused on investigating areas of improvement for the new process. Deliverables included process suggestions for business unit managers, process suggestions for sourcing managers, and detailed process flowcharts highlighting potential modifications in the new process. Overall, it is critical to keep consulting costs low to ensure that watchdog organizational ratings stay positive and public trust in the American Red Cross remains high.

The increasing civilian demand for autonomous aerial vehicle platforms in both hobby and professional markets has resulted in an abundance of inexpensive inertial navigation systems and hardware. The increasing civilian demand for autonomous aerial vehicle platforms in both hobby and professional markets has resulted in an abundance of inexpensive inertial navigation systems and hardware. Many of these systems lack full autonomy, relying on the pilot's guidance with the assistance of inertial sensors for guidance. Autonomous systems depend heavily on the use of a global positioning satellite receiver which can be inhibited by satellite signal strength, low update rates and poor positioning accuracy. For precise navigation of a micro air vehicle in locations where GPS signals are unobtainable, such as indoors or throughout a dense urban environment, additional sensors must complement the inertial sensors to provide improved navigation state estimations without the use of a GPS. By creating a system that allows for the rapid development of experimental guidance, navigation and control algorithms on versatile, low-cost development platforms, improved navigation systems may be tested with relative ease and at reduced cost. Incorporating a downward-facing camera with this system may also be utilized to further improve vehicle autonomy in denied-GPS environments.

In this formative research project, we seek to better understand the general barriers to refugee access to higher education. Using mixed methods research--which included surveys, interviews, and course data--we evaluate the benefits and challenges experienced by refugee students in Israel who are enrolled in Arizona State University's Education for Humanity programs. In the end, this case study resulted in 24 recommend programmatic changes designed to eliminate the barriers that prevent refugee students from accessing and succeeding in higher education.

The retail department store industry has been in decline for years. Online shopping has become increasingly popular, and this was happening even before the pandemic. Department stores made the mistake years ago of focusing on expansion instead of improving their presence online. In this paper, I make recommendations to help retail department stores make more sales online, as well as get more shoppers back in their brick-and-mortar locations. There needs to be a new target customer that is much younger than the previous. Department stores need put money and time into building their social media platforms. These stores should be looking for several e-commerce brands to incorporate into their stores online, but more importantly in their brick-and-mortar locations. To grow bigger faster, department stores should start to consider using trusted third-party sellers like their biggest competitor Amazon does. Many younger people choose to shop from sustainable and socially responsible brands. Department stores should put in their best efforts to make sure they are caring about these things, not only to help make a change but to also increase their popularity among consumers. It is critical that large retail department stores use several influencers to promote their store and products among all forms of social media. This has become one of the most inexpensive and effective ways to increase sales. Finally, department stores should consider trying livestream shopping as a way to connect with their customers and sell more product. I have covered several ways that department stores can start to expand their business and begin to grow again. I believe these recommendations can transform the retail department store into possible something even more successful than it was before.
