The mental health of ASU students has been negatively affected by the pandemic. Our research looks to prove that COVID-19 has caused an increase in stress levels while uncovering other relationships to stress. We obtained our data by conducting a survey through Google Forms that was exclusively accessible to ASU students. Stress levels were measured with the use of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). We find that the stress of ASU students from before the pandemic to during rises from 15 to 22 points, a 50% increase (n = 228). We discovered that women are more stressed than men before and during the pandemic. We also discovered that there is no difference between stresses among different races. We notice that there is a parabolic relationship between enrollment time and stress levels with the peak occurring during semesters 2-6. We also conclude that students who attended more than 5 events during the pandemic had lower stress scores, and those who had their videos on for at least 3 events had lower stress scores. Furthermore, students who utilized campus resources to manage their stress had higher stress levels than those who did not.

To understand the role communication and effective management play in the project management field, virtual work was analyzed in two phases. Phase one consisted of gaining familiarity within the field of project management by interviewing three project managers who discussed their field of work, how it has changed due to Covid-19, approaches to communication and virtual team management, and strategies that allow for effective project management. Phase two comprised a simulation in which 8 ASU student volunteers were put into scenarios that required completing and executing a given project. Students gained project experience through the simulation and had an opportunity to reflect on their project experience.

Abstract<br/>Foreign Direct Investment has been pursued to economically integrate countries and to increase economic development. This has been accomplished partly through the WTO and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), which have spurred foreign direct investment (FDI) by removing barriers to trade tariff and nontariff. In addition, they also created a framework and legal guidelines and regulations for investment and trade. Research suggests that this is the case when looking at country level data before and after FTAs go into effect. Although the existing literature offers important insights a weakness is it does not often look at the relationship between FTAs and FDI by analyzing firm level data. This is an important relationship to be studied as, beyond governments multinational companies (MNCs) are one of few key actors that can benefit the most and have the capabilities to take advantage of these FTAs. Therefore, studying the relationship between MNCs and their investments both before and after an FTA is signed is important to see if FDI would change in response to Free Trade Agreements and have an impact at the MNC level deployment of FDI. This would be significant to see if the current steady for attracting FDI is working. This is also important as FDI helps countries develop. Therefore, it can be seen as an exceptional contribution to the overall research on the subject. In this paper I will explore how companies have reacted to the formation of FTAs as well as the distinct effects of North-South South-South and North-North Agreements on firm’s investment strategies, using firm level data and drawing on interviews with multiple trade officials.

The use of Artificial Intelligence in assistive systems is growing in application and efficiency. From self-driving cars, to medical and surgical robots and industrial tasked unsupervised co-robots; the use of AI and robotics to eliminate human error in high-stress environments and perform automated tasks is something that is advancing society’s status quo. Not only has the understanding of co-robotics exploded in the industrial world, but in research as well. The National Science Foundation (NSF) defines co-robots as the following: “...a robot whose main purpose is to work with people or other robots to accomplish a goal” (NSF, 1). The latest iteration of their National Robotics Initiative, NRI-2.0, focuses on efforts of creating co-robots optimized for ‘scalability, customizability, lowering barriers to entry, and societal impact’(NSF, 1). While many avenues have been explored for the implementation of co-robotics to create more efficient processes and sustainable lifestyles, this project’s focus was on societal impact co-robotics in the field of human safety and well-being. Introducing a co-robotics and computer vision AI solution for first responder assistance would help bring awareness and efficiency to public safety. The use of real-time identification techniques would create a greater range of awareness for first responders in high-stress situations. A combination of environmental features collected through sensors (camera and radar) could be used to identify people and objects within certain environments where visual impairments and obstructions are high (eg. burning buildings, smoke-filled rooms, ect.). Information about situational conditions (environmental readings, locations of other occupants, etc.) could be transmitted to first responders in emergency situations, maximizing situational awareness. This would not only aid first responders in the evaluation of emergency situations, but it would provide useful data for the first responder that would help materialize the most effective course of action for said situation.

This thesis was written to discuss the implications from the implementation of the Internet, and the long-term impacts that may arise. In this thesis, I go over several benefits and negatives from the internet. I start going over virtual communities in the first section because based on my research, I believe these are the biggest benefits that have arised from the integration of the internet in today's society. I move on to discuss the general benefits, and how the internet satisfies basic human needs, and has influenced our culture to move towards online activities. I move on to talk about the negatives associated with the internet, specifically talking about internet addiction because research surrounding the impacts of the internet is mainly geared towards internet addiction. This is because there is very little research regarding effects of the internet long-term due to how recent the internet is, and because there has not been much incentive to research the long-term impacts. Now because of Covid19, we are going to be seeing more research, and I came to the conclusion that our society is becoming addicted to the internet, and that we do not yet know if this is a bad thing or not. More research needs to be conducted.

Given the importance of free speech and free expression for the learning and development of American citizens, it is important to analyze how our universities promote these principles within the classroom. In particular, it is crucial we understand how comfortable students feel sharing their views on the toughest and most controversial issues. The rise in free speech incidents over the past 20 years on college campuses has led us to question the state of free speech and free expression on university campuses and, more importantly, within the classroom. Research on this topic has taken a broad approach in attempting to understand student attitudes towards free speech, but there has been little research done on the state of campus expression within the ASU classroom.

This study utilized a modified survey instrument known as the Campus Expression Survey, a tool created by Heterodox Academy to gauge student perceptions of free speech and free expression within classroom environments. With a sample size of 366 ASU students across all four metropolitan campuses, students were asked a series of questions that included how comfortable they would be sharing their views on a controversial political issue as well as what consequences one might expect from other students and faculty members as a result of sharing one's views. Students were also asked about their ideological perceptions of their peers, faculty, and administrators.

Analysis of the responses found four primary conclusions. First, politically-oriented majors are significantly more comfortable expressing their views on both controversial and non-controversial issues. Furthermore, students are found to be significantly more comfortable when they believe other students and faculty members share their political beliefs. Third, students are more hesitant to speak up because of the perceived repercussions from their classmates rather than their professors. Lastly, students that identify as Republican, Independent, conservative, or moderate are far more likely to feel uncomfortable sharing their views than students that identify as Democrat or liberal.
