Currently, Arizona State University's West Campus offers students a Bachelor's of Science degree in Forensics. This degree program has been at ASU's West campus for over three years now and is at its capacity of 300 students due to limitations on lab space. In order to support the growth and provide students with a valuable experience, the Math and Natural Sciences department seeks to create a "fee-for-service" enterprise within the Forensics division. This new lab called the Arizona State University Forensic Science Center (ASU-FSC) would serve city, county, state, and federal government agencies. The mission of the ASU-FSC is to provide robust, accurate and efficient forensic services while leading innovation in research and education in forensics for Arizona, the Southwest and the country. The School of Natural Science and Mathematics has sought help from W. P. Carey School of Business students to analyze the possibility of adding a Forensics fee-for-service lab to ASU West campus. The deliverables from this report will provide a comprehensive marketing, supply chain and financial review of all aspects of the business, and will aid in the decision making process for the creation of the Arizona State University Forensic Science Center.

In a global environment, innovation has become especially important to remain competitive in the market. Many factors affect the rate of innovation. Specifically, national culture significantly impacts a nation's ability to innovate. Using Hofstede's cultural dimensions [Power Distance, Individualism, Masculinity, Uncertainty Avoidance], this research attempts to explain a culture's effects on innovation. Based on data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), countries showing higher levels of innovation correlate with better quality of life and profitability amongst corporations in countries. Organizations can use the correlations identified between each of Hofstede's frameworks to improve company culture and increase rates of innovation. A low Power Distance and Uncertainty Avoidance coupled with an Individualistic culture had the largest positive effect on innovation.

The following business plan will delve into the financial feasibility of a business venture into niche pet product markets: more specifically, the market for pet products both sourced and made in the USA, which is a distinction also discussed in the body of the paper. The paper begins by detailing the anecdote that brought about the vision for the company and then segues into a description of the products that will be carried by the company. These include pet toys, beds, leashes, vitamins, soaps, treats and more, which is followed by a list of potential product suppliers who have all already expressed interest in the venture. The plan then discusses the possibility of expanding into markets abroad such as China and the feasibility of carrying products outside of those strictly for dogs and cats. An in-depth market analysis includes a series of statistics reinforcing the potential profitability of the business, including the fact that a recent study has found that 81 percent of pet owners consider their dogs to be "bonda fide family members" and that online spending on pet supplies increased 67 percent between July 2015 and July 2016. It also includes the projection that the industry is intended to reach $91.72 billion in sales by 2019. The discussion then transitions into the company's target market, which, at the most specific level, will be white, married individuals age 55 to 64 living in rural areas with an annual household income of $125,000 or more. The plan then delves into a target market segment strategy, which addresses how marketing and business strategies will target certain demographics to appeal to them individually, whether it be through a "family-owned" impression or an appeal to their sense of patriotism or social consciousness. The paper then transitions to location, facilities, shipping, and licensing, discussing the layout, which will be in a residential garage that meets all city regulations. A best-in class e-commerce experience is vital to the success of the business. By optimizing our e-commerce platform and search marketing, we can level the playing field and standout from our competition. Therefore, Shopify will be used as the content management system and the domain name "petsuppliesusa.com" has been selected. Three potential logo designs and reasoning for each are examined. Next, the plan discusses the company and management, stating that decision making will lie in the hands of the founders even after a larger employee pool is hired and a flatter structure is employed. Exercising is becoming an important part of life, and yet not everybody is exercising regularly as they should. This project is focused on the exercising level of people in China and the United States therefore to determine the factors that prevent people from exercising. By extensive research and observations in the gyms of China and the United States, 6 major factors were determined and those are: Food, Education, Aesthetic/ Beauty standard, Gym membership fee, Government and control, and Work/ Society. The author found that with the extensive government control, people in China do not have full access to internet and therefore they do not have information about exercising. Education is should be refocused because government and school are not paying attention to students' health, students at school have excessive homework and assignment which prevent them from playing sports and exercising. Government of China should become more open-minded and open the access of internet instead of control. Both the United States and China should set more sports related classes, and reduce assignment and homework load. For China, more public infrastructure and facility should be built and open to the public who has less income can have access to exercise. Lastly promote healthy lifestyle, and bring knowledge to the general population such as healthy diet, and the dangers of being unhealthy.

Asana Arizona is a concept created by Arizona State University students Halie Blauser and Stephen Argentati to sell handmade jewelry. They were inspired to start making jewelry in their free time, and were interested to see if they could create a profitable small business. Their first priority was to create a strategic marketing plan, to examine the current external/internal environment and find marketplace opportunities. As a part of this they performed research to determine which fashion styles would be the best target demographic to market their products to, and found that consumers who identified as "Bohemian", "Hipster", and "Punk" were the best target demographics. They also found that a majority of college students do not care whether or not a product is handmade or locally made, and primarily just care about price. Online social media pages were created for Asana Arizona on Instagram, Etsy, and Facebook, and a Facebook ads were created and boosted towards the target fashion styles.

The United Nation's forecasts the World's population to grow to 9 billion by year 2050. This statistic, coupled with the fact that current organic food production yields average near 40% lower than conventionally grown crops, indicates that current methods of "sustainable" agriculture are sure to strip the planet of more wildlife habitat in order to feed so many mouths. Plus, erratic weather causing inconsistent crop production will leave vulnerable groups highly susceptible to famine. Agriculture today has a very complex supply chain that pulls resources from around the world to take to market. The Vertical Farm, LLC (TVF) seeks to change this reality and make 100% chemical free product, available locally to all major markets. The Vertical Farm, LLC is much different than a typical farm and operates on a soil-less hydroponic growing system. This system uses up to 95% less water and less than 50% of the fertilizer that an open-air organic farm would consume, by delivering all of the necessary nutrients directly to its crop's roots and recycling the solution in a closed loop system. TVF seeks to operate in unutilized warehouses and retail spaces, which will serve to control every aspects of the growing environment. This entails replacing sunlight with specially designed LED lights for horticulture applications and an HVAC system that creates the perfect growing conditions for plants to transpire. All of these capabilities translate into TVF being able to grow consistently year-round, regardless of weather, and produce quality local vegetables 30% faster than a conventional farm. In order to determine the economic feasibility of this business model, a prototype first had to be designed, which can be seen on Appendix A, B, & C. This system, designed in collaboration with University of Arizona's Controlled Environment Agricultural Center's Director, Gene Giacomelli PH. D., has determined that the roughly 1.75-acre system is capable of producing over 2.5 million pounds of lettuce every year. The footprint of the building includes all 3 major aspects of produce production, growing, harvesting, and packaging, and this vertically integrated business model allows The Vertical Farm to capture the most value, while taking its product to market. The net operating income of this prototype design is estimated to be 11.94%, with revenue in excess of $5.7 million and the largest costs being the LED lights and electricity. The Vertical Farm has mitigated its potentially largest cost, labor, by streamlining all processes of production in addition to employing the use of high-tech materials handling robots to transport crops within the facility. The Vertical Farm's production facility is not designed with human comfortability in mind (aisles are only 3' wide), but instead maximizes floor space utilization in order to produce as many pounds of product as possible. As a result, The Vertical Farm's prototype not only demonstrates the economic feasibility of indoor vertical farming today, but also gives significant merit to its growth potential to capture a portion of the $20 billion American vegetable market.

This research focused on how low-income communities in Ghana could convert Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) into biodiesel to supplement their energy demands. The 2016 World Energy Outlook estimates that about 8 million Ghanaians do not have access to electricity while 82% of the population use biomass as cooking fuel. However, WVO is available in almost every home and is also largely produced by hotels and schools. There are over 2,700 registered hotels and more than 28,000 educational institutions from Basic to the Tertiary level. Currently, most WVOs are often discarded in open gutters or left to go rancid and later disposed of. Therefore, WVOs serve as cheap materials available in large quantities with a high potential for conversion into biodiesel and commercializing to support the economic needs of low-income communities. In 2013, a group of researchers at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana estimated that the country could be producing between 82,361 and 85,904 tons of biodiesel from WVOs generated by hotels alone in 2015. Further analysis was also carried out to examine the Ghana National Biofuel Policy that was introduced in 2005 with support from the Ghana Energy Commission. Based on the information identified in the research, a set of recommendations were made to help the central government in promoting the biodiesel industry in Ghana, with a focus on low-income or farming communities. Lastly, a self-sustaining biodiesel production model with high potential for commercialization, was proposed to enable low-income communities to produce their own biodiesel from WVOs to meet their energy demands.

This research was aimed at identifying the problems of the kidney transplant market and then proposing business-minded solutions. The methodology that was used to compile research was an industry analysis, a business model canvas, the lean startup methodology, academic papers, popular culture references, previous and present marketing campaigns, an internship at a local hospital, and organ transplant databases. The problems I identified was that kidney transplant industry was favorable but had few competitors, a mounting demand with a lack of supply, a lack of public awareness, negative public perception, and incorrectly focused marketing campaigns. The solutions that I constructed were the endorsement of grocery retail clinics as a step to prevent a future increase in demand for kidneys, a hybridized opt-in system that would increase the supply of transplantable kidneys, a public awareness campaign that would increase the public's awareness and shift it into a positive light, and a refocused marketing campaign that centered on why people become donors. The implementation of these solutions should be solution1, then solution 3 and 4, and then after the public has enough time to ruminate, employ solution 2.

The goal of the creative project "Popular Music Songwriting" was to jump into songwriting with strategy and study on popular music, looking at why songs make the charts. The project had one focus on Max Martin's songwriting principles, but looked at anything that hit the charts. The conclusion of the project brings an understanding of several rules and patterns in songwriting that hit makers typically obey. A common purpose for pop songs is to keep its listeners engaged but not overwhelmed. The goal is to do something different, but keep things familiar and to make people want to listen to it again. Songwriting has become very business-minded in that many informal rules to songwriting have become established because they are supported by psychology, showing that we have developed certain expectations in songs. For example, when a song gets very complex, we oftentimes tune out and do not want to hear it. This problem makes a song unfriendly to the radio. Also, repetition is often exercised. Many pop listeners have favorite parts of songs; therefore, when a songwriter has created a hook that listeners will want to look forward to through the song's duration, then that hook should be recycled strategically to keep the listener engaged. Four songs are submitted at the project's completion. The songs' names are "Soon to be an Emergency," "They Will Look at Us," "Black and White," and "Psychedelic Nights." The songs well represent a timeline of the project. As new songwriting rules were learned in the process of this project, they were employed accordingly, making each new song a fair representation of the learning up to that point.

This Creative Project contains a short movie that is comprised of interviews with various business owners and entrepreneurs based in Arizona. The purpose of this project was originally to explore "how businesses finance their initial venture" but quickly evolved into open-ended interviews. Originally, one of the listed goals for the project was to ensure that the movie be entertaining for the viewer. In order to gain the richest experience, it was decided that at least 8-10 entrepreneurs be interviewed for a 25 minute video. Since the creator of the video had no prior videography experience, it was assumed to be feasible \u2014 but in order to maintain the integrity of the interviews, and in order to provide the viewer with a better background, the format was changed to a 44 minute movie with 5 featured businesses, though more than 30 businesses were considered. It became clear that the diversity of available interviewees and the complexity of the businesses and financing methods made it impractical to feature such a technical topic in the movie. Balancing the entertainment value of the film and its functional, educational purpose proved to be one of the challenges for the completion of the project. Each interview stands alone its own right, but it's highly recommended that the viewer watch the entire feature. The businesses are featured in the following order: DryClean U.S., Jeffrey Rivera (sole-proprietor), Arizona Hops and Vines, Rune Wines, and The Duquesne House Inn and Gardens. The viewer will find that the businesses featured include both service-based businesses and product-based businesses. In all, over 300 hours of planning, filming, writing, and video-editing contributed to successful completion of this project.
