The public education system in the United States is one of the nation's most powerful and influential institutions. Although this system was and continues to be viewed as a societal equalizer, the institution of public education was never constructed to support equity. This paper examines educational inequity by analyzing American history state standards in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Montana, and Oklahoma. American history state standards are carefully curated to construct a dominant "American story." For this project three frameworks were utilized to analyze the five state standards: Timeframe of Inclusion, Life Domains, and Population Characterization. These three frameworks helped unpack the state standards, which overall do not holistically include Latino or Native American historical elements. This paper supports the need to reconstruct the American history state standards in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Montana, and Oklahoma to more accurately represent Native American and Latino contributions and historical elements.

The thesis is comprised of information representing the Current Marketing Situation; Target Market, Customer Analysis, and Positioning; Objectives and Issues; Marketing Strategy; Marketing Programs; Financial and Operational Plans; and Metrics and Implementation Control. These are all of the necessary components of an in-depth marketing plan to be used to communicate Taglio Academy's competitive advantage and positioning within the market. This information focuses on conveying the importance of bringing the Academy to the attention of target cosmetology students and target student-salon service clients.

Fruit King a personal and historical audio narrative of a Sicilian immigrant turned American success completed in conjunction with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University. This project was completed with the guidance and support of thesis director, Dr. Dawn Gilpin and thesis second-chair, Dr. John Craft. This thesis project has been executed in the form of a podcast, website and research report that recounts and relishes in the legacy and life of Joseph DiGiorgio, the once 14-year-old who immigrated from Cefalu, Sicily to Ellis Island, New York in 1888. He went from selling fruit in a cart and borrowing money from the bank to establishing the Baltimore Fruit exchange and becoming the director of the Maryland National Bank by 21 years old. His billion-dollar business, the DiGiorgio Fruit Corporation, became the world’s largest fruit grower of grapes, plums and pears in the 1940s, and he landed a feature story in Fortune Magazine in 1946. To me, he is my great-great-great-uncle Joe, but to the world, he is what the New York Times crowned him: the Fruit King.

Often considered to be one of the most promising solutions in the fight against global poverty, “microfinance is a term used to describe financial services, such as loans, savings, insurance and fund transfers to entrepreneurs, small businesses and individuals who lack access to traditional baking services” (Kiva). With hundreds of organizations committed or partially committed to the facilitation of microfinance loans on a domestic and global scale, the way scholarly communities have ultimately decided to view this type of giving is narrow but optimistic. The trends associated with microfinancing show it to have a positive impact on both lenders and borrowers. The goal of this thesis is to bring a level of personal context to these trends with qualitative research from the stories of individuals who have participated in the facilitation of a microloan.

The purpose of this thesis is to see if a correlation exists between young adults’ personal perception of thriving and a curated online and written course centered around thriving. The course, What Does It Mean for Ages 17 – 24 to Thrive, took place over the span of four weeks and focused on concepts of personal strengths, goal setting, gratitude and thriving. Through this course, students were expected to complete daily practices, weekly challenges and weekly reflections to help build healthy habits for their overall well-being. This course was created in hopes of seeing an improvement from the student’s levels and perception of thriving before and after the course. To collect data, the study began with qualitative interviews to gain an understanding of the participants and their current level of thriving. Throughout the duration of the course, data and feedback was gathered through the students’ assignment submissions every week. As the course came to a close, data was collected through a final round of qualitative interviews focusing on the students’ biggest takeaways from the course. In analyzing the data, one of the biggest challenges came from the students not having enough time to complete all of the daily practices. However, every student mentioned they were able to take something away from this course and hope to implement the exercises into their daily lives. One significant finding came from the survey question, “Do you actively think about your purpose in life?” Prior to the course, there was a mixture of responses stating yes, no, and somewhat. However, after the course, almost every student responded “yes” and one student responded “somewhat.” Overall, it is evident that young adults hope to thrive in life, however, their biggest challenge comes from finding enough time for themselves outside of school and work. This course allowed students to put thriving into perspective and allowed them all to grow.

This study examines how a commitment to service can impact and come to exemplify a company’s brand image, customer loyalty, and overall organizational success. It examines the history and evolution of customer service, as well as what commitment to service looks like in present-day businesses. It differentiates companies that have attained a reputation for superior service and companies that have struggled to overcome service failures. Trader Joe’s, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Chick-fil-A, Southwest Airlines, and The Walt Disney Company are identified as five companies that have attained a reputation for remarkable service. This study includes five analyses to understand each company’s mission, history, leadership, employee engagement, and organizational culture. This study synthesizes how an unwavering commitment to customers, emphasis on employee empowerment, and ability to embed service in culture are common themes that can significantly contribute to a company’s ability to develop a reputation for remarkable service.

Due to recent increased in bicycle facilities as well as a focus on alternative modes of transport, understanding the motivations and type of people who bike to work is important in order

Approximately 1% of the total working population within the United States bikes as their primary mode of commute. Due to recent increased in bicycle facilities as well as a focus on alternative modes of transport, understanding the motivations and type of people who bike to work is important in order to encourage new users.
In this project, a literature review was completed as well as data analysis of the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) in order to find specific populations to target. Using these target populations, it is suggested that advertising and workplace encouragement occur to persuade more people to bike to work. Through data analysis it was found that the most impactful variables were the region of the country, gender, population density, and commute distance. Bicycle commuters statistically had fewer vehicles in their households and drove less miles annually.
There were five main target groups found through this analysis; people who bike for other reasons besides work and live in a city with more than 4,000 people per square mile, young professionals between 19-39, women in regions with separated bicycle facilities, those with low vehicle availability, and environmentally conscious individuals. Working to target these groups through advertising campaigns to encourage new users, as well as increasing and improving bicycle facilities, will help create more new bicyclists.

This study focuses on local artists’ perceptions on how the art community of Roosevelt Row is evolving as the City of Phoenix continues to develop. For over twenty years, Roosevelt Row, which once consisted of bare, dirt lots, has served as the art scene of Downtown Phoenix. A major

This study focuses on local artists’ perceptions on how the art community of Roosevelt Row is evolving as the City of Phoenix continues to develop. For over twenty years, Roosevelt Row, which once consisted of bare, dirt lots, has served as the art scene of Downtown Phoenix. A major component to the identity of Roosevelt Row is ‘First Friday,’ a monthly, free event where artists and visitors from all over the Valley intermingle for the night to celebrate the art scene. As the city continues to develop, the role of art within this community is changing. Five artists were asked to participate in an interview regarding their experiences with the City of Phoenix, commercial developers and how recent growth has affected their community. A participant in the study was required to be artist on Roosevelt Row. The participants were three visual artists, one poet, and an artistic, small business owner. An art-based research methodology was used. Each of the five interviews was transformed into a poem that represented the emerging themes from the data collection. The results reveled three major themes - 1. There is a disconnect between artists and developers 2. The First Friday Art Walk, which originated as a small community experience, has expanded into a large cultural event drawing tourists from all over the region and 3. Arizona State University is a change agent for the gentrification of the Roosevelt Row community. Solutions offered by the artists include: 1. Each artist should focus on their own responsibility in establishing their role in the evolving community 2. Artists should seek out roles within city government to influence policy with commercial developers and 3. Artists may abandon the Roosevelt Row neighborhood to seek out the next underdeveloped area in Phoenix. Though the city is rapidly changing, there is a general hope that the free expression and inspiration of Roosevelt Row can remain.

Educational institutions are in a unique position to take advantage of computers and software in new, innovative ways. The Mechanics Project at Arizona State University has done an exceptional job integrating many new ways of engaging students and providing resources that can help them learn course material in a way that they can understand. However, there is still very little research on how to best compose multimedia content for student use.

This project aims to determine what students struggle with in these courses and develop multimedia content to support their education in Dynamics specifically.

The purpose of this creative project was to spread awareness about the work of various non-profit organizations in the Phoenix community while allowing the public to immediately get involved in their missions. This project was manifested through Give Back Phoenix, which was held on February 2nd, 2019. Give Back Phoenix had three goals: to serve non-profit organizations in the community, to allow community members to experience giving back in a fun and hands-on way, and to help community members connect with organizations for future volunteer opportunities and long-term volunteering commitments.
