This thesis looks at youth baseball pitchers’ perceptions of the risks and benefits of a weighted baseball and long toss training program. The literature review is a supplement to the thesis by examining the effects of weighted baseball and long toss training programs on a youth pitcher’s arm health and career longevity. Prior research in this topic details the risks and benefits of these programs. The research survey conducted for this thesis aimed to supplement the prior research by giving insight into the perceptions of these young athletes towards weighted baseball and long toss training programs.

This was a mixed methods project investigating the effects of remote learning and COVID-19 on ASU students. This study was performed during the transition from remote learning back to in-person learning. It is a holistic view of the university experience and analyzes student's ideas and opinions on how that university experience shifted during remote learning and their return to campus. The study utilizes both statistical analysis of quantitative data and a thematic analysis of student responses. This project also included a video interview, where students and one faculty member were filmed in order to give better insight into how individuals were affected. In nature, some animals have an exoskeleton that provides protection, strength, and stability to the organism, but in engineering, an exoskeleton refers to a device that augments or aids human ability. Since the 1890s, engineers have been designing exoskeletal devices, and conducting research into the possible uses of such devices.

In nature, some animals have an exoskeleton that provides protection, strength, and stability to the organism, but in engineering, an exoskeleton refers to a device that augments or aids human ability. Since the 1890s, engineers have been designing exoskeletal devices, and conducting research into the possible uses of such devices. These bio-inspired mechanisms do not necessarily relate to a robotic device, though since the 1900s, robotic principles have been applied to the design of exoskeletons making their development a subfield in robotic research. There are different multiple types of exoskeletons that target different areas of the human body, and the targeted area depends on the need of the device. Usually, the devices are developed for medical or military usage; for this project, the focus is on medical development of an automated elbow joint to assist in rehabilitation. This project is being developed for therapeutic purposes in conjunction between Arizona State University and Mayo Clinic. Because of the nature of this project, I am responsible for the development of a lightweight brace that could be applied to the elbow joint that was designed by Dr. Kevin Hollander. In this project, my research centered on the use of the Wilmer orthosis brace design, and its possible application to the exoskeleton elbow being developed for Mayo Clinic. This brace is a lightweight solution that provides extra comfort to the user.

Textbooks are crucial in classrooms when it comes to developing lesson plans and curriculum for the classroom. They serve as a way for students to learn more about a certain topic in depth and can improve reading comprehension skills. However, as past studies have shown (Grever and van der Vlies),

Textbooks are crucial in classrooms when it comes to developing lesson plans and curriculum for the classroom. They serve as a way for students to learn more about a certain topic in depth and can improve reading comprehension skills. However, as past studies have shown (Grever and van der Vlies), textbooks can be one-sided and leave out stories and perspectives from marginalized groups, such as African Americans and Indigenous peoples. Multiple perspectives in textbooks allow students to use historical consciousness to reflect how these historical events have an impact on modern society. Arizona has been in a unique political position over the past decade. In 2011, the state legislature passed a bill banning ethnic studies to be taught in schools. This was eventually reversed by the Court in 2017. Recently, the Governor signed two bills regarding education, which are improving curriculum on the Holocaust and banning critical race theory from being taught in schools. Because of Arizona’s geographic diversity, textbook content might vary since Arizona holds the most federally recognized tribes and borders Mexico. To analyze those differences, the 15 counties of Arizona are grouped into five regions, and from each region, one textbook will be analyzed. The textbooks will be coded for each racial community, which will be Asian American, Hispanic American, Black American, and Indigenous American. It is concluded that there is a direct relationship between the textbooks chosen and the racial groups that are covered in these books. Counties that had a larger Indigenous population tended to have a textbook that would cover more Indigenous history.

The HLA, Human Leukocyte Antigens, are encoded by a polymorphic set of genes where even a single base change can impact the function of the body’s immune response to foreign antigens [1]. Although many methods exist to type these alleles using whole-genome sequencing (WGS), few can use RNA sequencing (RNA-seq)

The HLA, Human Leukocyte Antigens, are encoded by a polymorphic set of genes where even a single base change can impact the function of the body’s immune response to foreign antigens [1]. Although many methods exist to type these alleles using whole-genome sequencing (WGS), few can use RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to show the functional expression of the alleles with its inconsistency in coverage, and none of these allow for novel allele discovery. We present an approach using partially ordered graphs to project sequenced data onto the known alleles allowing for accurate and efficient typing of the HLA genes with flexibility for discovering new alleles and tolerance for poor sequence quality. This graph-guided approach to assembling and typing the HLA genes from RNA-seq has applications throughout precision medicine, facilitating the prevention and treatment of autoimmune diseases where allele expression can change. It is also a necessary step for determining donors for organ transplants with the least likelihood of rejection. This novel approach of combining database matching with partially ordered graphs for assembling genetic sequences of RNA-seq data could be applied towards typing other alleles.
