We plan to reach our mission by placing legible braille and its translation on our sweatshirts. Furthermore, we want to support the visually impaired and blind community by donating 5% of our profits to local blind charities.

This world promises just one thing: continuous change. As humanity has moved through time much has changed in the worlds of science, mathematics, and physics. These shifts in humanity's comprehension often arrive unexpectedly, driven by education, innovation, and experimentation. Such transformative waves resemble a series of technology shocks that are known to cause significant disruptions within an industry and the economy broadly as firms permanently change the ways they produce and distribute goods and services in response to new technologies or information. The recent flurry of innovation and interest in Artificial Intelligence leads us to believe that many industries may be experiencing such a wave of change today. The healthcare industry currently employs the most workers of any other sector in the United States (outside of the government) and is made up of an unprecedented 77% of female workers making the outcomes of changes in its labor market demands particularly important. In this paper we discuss the current state of Artificial Intelligence adoption within the clinical side of healthcare, what sub sectors and occupations are most exposed, and to what extent the FDA approved AI-enabled clinical healthcare products replace or complement those tasks of existing occupations. We also interviewed a few healthcare professionals with different levels of seniority and exposure to AI-enabled products to develop a holistic understanding of current AI adoption, employee preparation, and potential labor market implications over the short and long term. We find that AI implementation within clinical healthcare settings is young in its life cycle yet fast growing. Current use cases are mostly in the earlier stages of the patient’s care journey assisting workers in various capacities in the processes of patient testing, diagnosis, care planning, and post-treatment monitoring. The tasks associated with patient interaction and care administration do not appear to be threatened by AI automation at this point in time. Additionally, approved Artificial Intelligence products for clinical use are disproportionately concentrated in the subsectors of radiology, neurology, and cardiology. Finally, our interviews revealed a concerning lack of consideration and preparation, among healthcare workers, for the potential automation of their fundamental tasks. Going forward, we believe it wise for healthcare workers to monitor the evolution of clinical AI use cases as well as the FDA approval of AI-enabled products and prepare for potential automation by continuing to learn new skills, take on additional responsibilities, and generally inject themselves into as many stages of the patient’s healthcare journey as possible to differentiate among other workers and avoid the coming wave of mass clinical automation.

Current demographic and water use trends prompt concerns for increasing water scarcity. Water reuse and wastewater reuse can help accommodate for some of these concerns. One application of this wastewater reuse can come in the form of agricultural applications. This, however, raises concerns of human and environmental exposure to antibiotic resistance genes and bacteria (ARGs/ARBs). Organizations such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) cite increasing exposure and cases of antibiotic resistant bacteria related infections. This has led to a need for a more thorough understanding of risk and risk management strategies for these purposes. Biosolids can be used as fertilizers after treatment from wastewater treatment plants and as a result may be a potential avenue for exposure. Biosolids are activated sludge commonly dewatered and/or further treated for agricultural applications and are a focus of this thesis. The objectives of this thesis are (1) to contribute to a literature review of ARGs in biosolids with a specific focus on the effects of different treatment practices; and (2) quantify E. coli bacteria, intI1 (an integron-integrase gene used as an indicator of anthropogenic pollution), some heavy metals, and nutrients (N, P, and K) for newly collected biosolids samples in a multifactorial-designed lettuce growth experiment. Results found that most data points did not report wastewater treatment type. Additionally, TH/TH-MAD appeared to have lower ARG concentrations relative to other treatment types. Organizations such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the WHO provide maximum permissible limits of certain contaminants in plants and soils. Results found Cadmium concentrations in lettuce to be above these outlined limits. E. coli bacteria and intI1 results varied. Ultimately, in the future there needs to be more consistent reporting guidelines for obtaining ARG/ARB data and developing risk models for assessing potential exposure.

Whether we like it or not, we all have questions. What is being human? We use different responses for the same questions, using tools like religion, science, art and magic to make sense of our little existence. Everyone sees it. Everyone feels it. Everyone knows it. So, what is it? In this podcast, I will review the major players and theories involved in five areas of philosophy: existentialism, ethics, epistemology, aesthetics and metaphysics. Through subsequent interviews with community connections, ASU professors and students, we will discuss and highlight how philosophical principles are present in all areas of life, as well as how knowledge of these principles can provide a more informed perspective on the world around us.

StayWell is an app concept that revolutionizes how young adults manage their health information by “Putting the Self-Care in Healthcare.” Allowing users to track both their medical and wellness information in one place, StayWell will act as both a healthcare and self-care app. The main page is a customizable calendar with a pill tracker, habit tracker and appointment tracker. At the bottom of the page, there is a storage feature to hold all of the user’s medical information such as insurance cards, provider contact, lab results, and other documentation. This allows users to track all medical or self-care related information in one convenient app that is fully customizable to match their specific needs, whether it’s tracking a chronic condition or just striving to reach new fitness goals. Our product is currently available for pre-sale via our website which showcases mockups of the user interface. With proper funding we can begin the development of the app and release a beta version to our existing audience who have already signed up for the app pre-sale.

The town of Visaginas, originally known as Sniečkus, is a small city in Lithuania located about a two hour drive from the country's capital of Vilnius. While Vilnius is a lively and big city of about 600,000 that draws people in and acts as the country’s hub, Visaginas is a small and quiet town. The town is a Soviet-planned city, and was fully established in 1975 almost exclusively to house workers of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. Its ties to Russia and nuclear energy give Visaginas a complex history. Almost all workers at the nuclear plant came from the Soviet Union, so the community served as an instrument for Russification. Visaginas' geographically isolated location and predominantly Russian speaking demographic effectively makes it an exclave in Lithuania. When the decommissioning of the INPP was completed, Visaginas lost its main source of economic revenue, but it was also a huge loss to the community because their sense of identity was strongly tied to the nuclear plant. Visaginas provides a one of a kind case study and a unique opportunity to examine the energy justice implications of the end of the nuclear industry. The complex relationship between Lithuania and the Soviet Union, succeeded by Russia, has played a major role in shaping Visaginas as well as contributing to some of the ongoing struggles in the region. This thesis will aim to address the history of Visaginas in relation to the geopolitics between Russia and Lithuania and examine the lifespan of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. The decommissioning will be framed through the lens of energy justice by examining the distributive, participatory, and recognition justice implications that stemmed from the decommissioning process. Finally, the paper will address the era of post-nuclear urbanism in Visaginas, Lithuania, and explore possible future avenues for the town. This thesis is a comprehensive literature review of relevant research and studies completed relating to the topic, and elements informed by the Generator Project week-long field school, a European Humanities University energy justice fellowship.

This project examines entry-level processors Company X. Analyzing their current position and creating recommendations for their future positioning in regard to entry-level processors. Utilizing financial models, our group worked to determine the most effective way to optimize NPV and gross margin for this segment. With extensive step models and sensitivity analysis, we analyzed potential paths that Company X could take. Continuing to be mindful of the limitations that certain projected paths would entail. Through our analysis, we were able to form a comprehensive suggestion that had a positive 8-year NPV and improved gross margin percentage.

The mission of EZ-Sit is to alleviate pain and increase comfort by creating a product that allows users to put their feet up when sitting for long periods of time. This product will connect to any single stem office chair with ease and will provide users with the ability to put their feet up whenever and wherever they work. Our goal is to empower individuals to pursue their goals without the hindrance of discomfort that comes with sitting for extended periods of time. At EZ-Sit we believe that no one’s productivity should be impeded due to the pain caused by a sedentary work life. We hope that this product will bring about physical well being in the workplace so individuals can focus on the day ahead of them. At EZ-Sit, our values include personal health, affordability, and productivity. Personal health is one of our core principles because we believe that people should not have to endure pain while sitting in order to get their work done. We value the integrity of the hard work that many people show while trying to pursue their dreams. We believe this strong drive for personal or professional growth should not have the consequences of pain. We also believe that our solution should be accessible to all regardless of financial situations. Our Vision at EZ-Sit is to create awareness around healthy sitting practices in addition to how these practices can boost productivity and can prevent burnout. We want to encourage people to take a stand about their sitting habits. Our analysis of the foot rest industry shows that this is not the first product of its kind, but the EZ-Sit is certainly the most accessible. Footrests exist all over the internet and in stores, but all of them are independent of the actual chair. These foot rests are one size-fits all and provide no physiological benefits to users who are either too short or too tall. In addition there are chairs on the market that have a built-in footrest. These chairs, however, are very expensive. This effectively excludes a whole portion of the market who do not have the means to invest in the product. We plan on marketing to young professionals who fall into the age range of eighteen to twenty-eight years old. We want to emphasize that taking care of your body while pursuing your goals is not something to be taken lightly. When we have a working model we plan on using social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to show how the product works as well as educate individuals around the health benefits of this product. Because this product is new to the market it is important for users to understand why it is different from other footrests in the market. Social media will also help to differentiate our product from the others by showing comparisons. We also plan on utilizing slogans that resonate without demographics such as “EZ-Sit, That’s It!” in order to grab the attention of our target audience.
