The questionnaire was then used in conjunction with two interviews of small business owners. The interviews covered both the overall financial status of their business and their business’ pre-existing accounting system. The feedback received during these interviews was subsequently used to provide the business owners with eleven recommendations ranging from the implementation of new policies to verification of existing internal controls.
Finally, I summarize my findings, both academic and real-world, conveying that many small business owners do not implement formal internal control systems. I also discuss why the business owners, in this specific circumstance, did not yet implement the aforementioned eleven suggestions.
This thesis looks at three different inventory management strategies that can be implemented into a small business. Using GameSet Style as a research subject, this study analyzes current practices and problems that can be fixed when dealing with an excess amount of inventory. The three inventory management strategies that are compared are demand forecasting, inventory management software, and ABC analysis. Inventory can be a small business's highest cost if not managed effectively. The goal for this thesis is to find the best obtainable solution for a small business like GameSet that can be implemented into their business strategy.
Chameleons are notoriously a difficult species to provide proper husbandry for in captivity. They are an extremely intriguing species that has been gaining popularity among HERP enthusiasts, but the difficulty of care is deterring owners from these wonderful creatures. Building a proper enclosure takes a lot of time to plan and research. Then to gather all the different supplies and to build the enclosure takes even longer. New or inexperienced chameleon owners tend to build improper enclosures, and this can be detrimental to a chameleon's health. My small business provides an online service that allows a building experience custom to my clients’ new friend’s needs.
As sustainability has become more prevalent it has become clear that companies have a pressing need to incorporate sustainability into their business. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ways that integrating sustainability can actually provide a financial benefit for a company. Through interviews and extensive research, we will target sustainability initiatives that work for both small and large businesses. This is another key part of our research; addressing the discrepancy in how businesses of different sizes are able to use sustainability, and then finding sustainability initiatives that recognize this discrepancy and are effective for businesses of all sizes.
Through the interviews of three large corporations (Amazon, Dell, and Lowes), and four small businesses (Exel Shirts, Goode Deals, Desert Dream Ice Cream, and FitzGerald and Sons Contracting) we were able to discover several very effective sustainability initiatives, such as ocean plastics recycling at Dell or packaging advertisements at Amazon. This thesis then discussed what characteristics of these plans are easiest to transfer and implement for businesses of all sizes, classifying the “ideal” sustainability initiative. Possible revenue earners like reusing scrap, and the intangible benefits like saved labor of telecommuting as some of the most significant financial value that sustainability can provide for companies of all sizes.
