The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate Company F’s inventory management practices and make recommendations on how to improve ordering and reduce inventory carrying costs. With today’s software programs we are able to run analyses’ almost instantly that show us the relationship between demand and inventory. Ideally, every company wants to have enough inventory to meet customer demand, but not so much that carrying costs skyrocket. Not only does it cost more to store inventory, but it also ties up capital which is difficult to liquidate. Finding a happy medium between customer service level and carrying costs will keep company F’s franchisees satisfied and the company profitable. Using different forecast analyses’, I will be evaluating Company F’s fastest selling category of 5 products with the goal of finding the most accurate forecast model. I will also determine reorder points and reorder quantities for the rest of Company F’s SKU’s based on average usage, lead time, and safety stock. The result of my findings will provide cost savings for the company which affects the bottom line.

My recommendations to the company will be based on the findings of the analyses’ used. There may be multiple conclusions in the recommendations for demand forecasting based on each individual forecast used. However, I will give my insight on which forecast I think is more accurate and why this one would be the best to implement in terms of accuracy. Going forward, the company will be capable of implement these models and fine tune them as necessary to help streamline their inventory needs.

My journey through Arizona State University did not start with Supply Chain Management. I began as a Finance Major, but something did not resonate with me. I eventually switched my major to Supply Chain Management in my Junior year, after taking Professor Eddie Davila’s SCM 300 course. The hands-on nature of supply chain management, as well as the broad range of industries it covered, got me hooked. For my alternative thesis, I had to attend four seminars for WPC supply faculty, then write summaries on them. I would then choose one of the four to further extrapolate on and do independent research. However, after attending only two, the COVID-19 outbreak occurred, leading to the cancellation of the remaining seminars. As a result, I was faced with two choices; abandon the thesis project entirely, or work with what I had. With the approval of my director, I decided on the following outline. The first part of this paper will summarize and reflect on the two faculty lectures I was able to attend. The second part of the paper will look at the way COVID-19 has impacted the supply chain of a local business, SilverTree Dentistry. I will use information gathered from the dental office, supplier sites, and online sources as well as from the two faculty lectures to develop a cohesive plan of potential action for SilverTree to better equip themselves and their supply chain to handle the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as how to respond as a small business in future times of crisis. This paper’s focus is on how small business supply chains are disrupted in their areas of supplier selection and supplier power, specifically how those areas affect the business’s spend.

Sustainable supply chain management has become increasingly more important for companies over the last decade. The need to create socially and environmentally sustainable supply chains that are also efficient and profitable is no longer something companies should do, but rather something they must do to stay competitive and successful in the long run. Through the examination of scholarly supply chain literature, case studies, and industry reports with an emphasis on digital technology, supply chain, and sustainability, a conceptual model was created to begin the research in the area of cost savings through the use of digital technologies to enable companies to be more sustainable. This paper works to define the terms sustainability, sustainable supply chain management, and intelligent supply chain designs. It focuses on the positive social and environmental impact of the implementation of leading-edge digital technologies in supply management processes by creating transparency, efficiency, and reliability throughout the supply chain. Through an applied analysis of Mattel, Rana Plaza, Nike, and Coca-Cola and a cost-benefit analysis, it is concluded that companies that implement blockchain technology into their supply management process designs may create more sustainable supply chains while increasing savings and increasing profits. Blockchain may provide the reliability and transparency needed to better manage the supply management process which will evoke better business decisions. Intelligent supply chain designs improve the environmental and social sustainability of a company while maintaining a competitive edge.

This thesis serves to demonstrate how a fictional private equity firm would acquire a company through an LBO. The project provides insight onto what private equity firms do, the background of Foot Locker, and an industry analysis on the sector that Foot Locker operates in. The thesis looks to provide a deeper understanding of the fair value of Foot Locker using a discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, comparable company analysis, and precedent transaction analysis. Included is a pitchbook, the DCF model, and LBO model.

This report addresses the value that companies can create along their supply chains by producing sustainably and locally, and proposes a business plan for a sleepwear and loungewear brand based on these findings. The purpose is to investigate whether or not there are opportunities for firms to make or save money by acting sustainably or producing locally, outside of the public relations value that could come from such efforts. By using research derived from scholarly articles and insight from experts, a background on the industry’s general trends and beliefs regarding sustainable and local production are addressed. Based on this research, it can be concluded that producing sustainably and locally is feasible and can provide supply chain related benefits for brands in certain situations. With this conclusion, a business plan was generated which aligned with the research presented in the analysis. It is important to acknowledge that there are certain actions related to sustainability and local production which could generally be beneficial for all apparel brands, but many suggestions are only applicable to smaller companies that sell at a higher price point.

Waiting in line for attractions is an unavoidable part of every theme park visit. Many theme park designers have tried ways to make these waits shorter and more enjoyable. Such techniques include offering a separate ‘fast lane’ for certain Guests or creating additional load platforms for higher Guest throughput. Both the queues themselves as well as the attraction’s operation have an enormous effect on how many Guests can experience it in a day, and relatedly, how long they will have to wait for that experience. This paper will utilize both queueing theory and personal work experience to analyze the queues and operations of two attractions at the Magic Kingdom Park: the Tomorrowland Speedway and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. I use my own personal experience working at these attractions as well as queueing data I recorded to show areas for improvement in queue design and operations, as well as potential solutions to increase efficiency and lower operational costs.

Nike, the largest athletic apparel company in the world, has a very complex wide-reaching supply chain. As pioneers of outsourcing production and products, they have dealt with many challenges and problems since their beginning in 1964. As Nike has faced their controversial history of labor strikes, protests, boycotts, and much more, they began to restructure their business model and supply chain practices. Following this came audits, minimum age requirements, factory condition monitoring, and public disclosures of locations. With these new initiatives and growth in Nike’s supply chain, an overarching analysis of Ports of Lading, Shipment Origins, Ports of Unlading, Shippers/Suppliers, and Carriers can give a glimpse into the world-wide network of their apparel. Finally, through my data analysis and secondary source research, I will explain how Nike's supply chain emerged, adjusted, and changed given different textile regulatory environments over the years.

This research examines supply chain performance and antecedents to better supply chain performance in manufacturing organizations, with a focus on manufacturing organizations following engineer-to-order and assemble-to-order production models. The variables of supply chain integration, internal communication, employee satisfaction, leader support, and the alignment of information and communication technology are empirically supported in affecting supply chain performance, and thus carry managerial and organizational implications in how they can be influenced, ideally for the benefit of manufacturing organizations. The data gathered for this study was obtained through interviews with sourcing professionals, as well as surveys distributed to corporate manufacturing employees. The findings on these variables fall in line with previous research explored in the report, adding credibility to previous studies, as well as their associated recommendations and implications. Organizational management and leadership, to improve supply chain performance, must strategically integrate information and communication technology, be clear and consistent in their messaging to employees, engage in effective conflict resolution, and provide support for necessary transparency and communication-enhancing initiatives.
