The various health benefits of vinegar ingestion have been studied extensively in the
literature. Moreover, emerging research suggests vinegar may also have an effect on mental
health. Beneficial effects of certain diets on mood have been reported, however, the mechanisms
are unknown. The current study aimed to determine if vinegar ingestion positively affects mood
state in healthy young adults. This was a randomized, single blinded controlled trial consisting of
25 subjects. Participants were randomly assigned to either the vinegar group (consumed 2
tablespoons of liquid vinegar diluted in one cup water twice daily with meals) or the control
group (consumed one vinegar pill daily with a meal), and the intervention lasted 4 weeks.
Subjects completed mood questionnaires pre- and post-intervention. Results showed a significant
improvement in CES-D and POMS-Depression scores for the vinegar group compared to the
control. This study suggests that vinegar ingestion may improve depressive symptoms in healthy
young adults.

Health and Wealthness is a podcast where your hosts, Emily Weigel and Hanaa Khan discuss pressing and trending topics about health and wealth that everyone should know about. Our first four episodes focus on the opioid crisis. Both the science and healthcare sides. We then go on to talk about burnout and mental health in a conversational episode.
With the recent rise in opioid overdose and death1

, chronic opioid therapy (COT) programs using
Center of Disease Control (CDC) guidelines have been implemented across the United States8
.
Primary care clinicians at Mayo Clinic initiated a COT program in September of 2017, during the
use of Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Study metrics included provider
satisfaction and perceptions regarding opioid prescription. Mayo Clinic transitioned its EHR
system from Cerner to Epic in October 2018. This study aims to understand if provider perceptions
about COT changed after the EHR transition and the reasons underlying those perceptions.
Yoga has become one of the most popular contemporary health approaches practiced by young adults in the United States. It is an ancient mind and body practice with origins in Indian philosophy dating to over 5,000 years ago. Yoga combines physical postures, rhythmic breathing, and meditative exercises to offer the participants a unique, holistic mind-body experience. In this report, the Sutras first introduced by Patanjali, an ancient Indian sage, are broken down into modern definitions. Each sutra has its own unique mental and physical benefits that can be attained by college students. Yama encourages maintaining a personal moral code. Niyama allows for personal connection and self-awareness. Asana refers to the poses that are still commonly practiced today. Pranayama helps to practice deep breathing. Pratyahara offers a disconnect from the world around us. Dharana allows us to focus and hone in on one thought. Dyana promotes a continuous flow of focus in meditation. Samadhi is reaching a state of pure relaxation. All of these take time and practice, but when implemented in different aspects of daily life, college students can reduce their overall stress and anxiety to improve focus and success.

The health disparities between rural and urban communities in the United States are not uniquely American. This rural-urban divide in health outcomes is present across the world and, closer to home, across North America. In addition to reviewing the current literature surrounding barriers to health and healthcare access in the United States, we will also use southern neighbor Mexico’s history and their pursuit of rural equity (universally and in health/healthcare access) to contrast initiatives that the U.S. has attempted, with the intent of exploring new theories of rural healthcare provision. By combining the history of social medicine in Mexico with literature on barriers to healthcare access, I hope to highlight areas of innovation and improvement in the American health care delivery system.
The purpose of this paper is to review the current literature regarding health disparities among rural Americans, possible causes of such disparities and current strategies to improve health, healthcare access and healthcare quality in rural America in order to recommend the most effective, practical solutions to improve rural mortality, morbidity and quality of life.
