Parental rights bills are pieces of legislation that detail and lay out the rights and abilities that parents have in the educational systems in the United States. After diving deeper into the history and effects of parental rights bills historically throughout the nation as well as what factors contribute to the passing of parental rights bills, I take a closer look at the specific parental rights bill that is central to my analysis: Arizona House Bill 2161. I conducted a thorough analysis of the transitivity of the bill paying close attention to who the actors were and the type of process they were conducting. Then, I singled out all the modals and the abilities they were depicting. As a result of both methods, I found that parents are given exclusive and undeniable control over their children’s education. Additionally, I found that students are cast to the side and their voices are swept under the rug as they have no modals and are never the actor - only the clients.

The purpose of this research thesis paper is to provide further insight into the development of extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) technologies within the educational space and survey how well they are received as well as whether or not they can provide additional learning benefit in regards to other learning mediums such as reading textbooks, watching videos on the subject matter, and other such more traditional mediums. The research conducted consisted of a collaborative effort alongside the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (SBHSE) personnel and using their provided resources in order to generate a framework with the aforementioned technology, to aid in the development of a web-based XR system which will serve primarily as a means for SBHSE students at Arizona State University (ASU) to enhance their learning experience when it comes to topics such as anatomy and physiology of the human body, with the potential of extending this technology towards other subject matters as well, such as other STEM-related fields. Information about the initial research which included an analysis of the pertinent readings that support a benefit to using XR technology as a means to deliver course content is what is first focused on throughout this document. Then, the process that went into the design and development of the base framework that was in joint collaboration with the SBHSE will be covered. And, to conclude, a case study to generate applicable data to support the argument is covered as well as the results from it, which presented a potential for a future development plan and next steps plan once the developed materials and research are handed off.

Upon analyzing the literature that is available on refugee populations in conjunction with our personal experiences with these populations, we ultimately decided to develop a mobile app that targeted the source of the numerous disparities we saw. These disparities ranged from increased prevalence of chronic diseases to difficulty in going to doctor's appointments due to transportation challenges. We focused on the three areas of government assistance, clinical health, and general well-being through our mobile app, Refugee Aid Initiative. This mobile app is designed to provide refugee populations with the resources necessary to build healthier, happier, and more independent lives for themselves and their families. Here, we focus on not only highlighting resources that are available but also adding supplementary information that helps refugee populations fully take advantage of the resources that are available to them.

This research investigates how educational material and provider conversation better address the concerns of Mexican patients and families dealing with Type 2 diabetes. This is important to address since Type 2 diabetes is a common disease that continues to increase and affects all ages. In addition, although it is a common disease, lack of education and knowledge is a barrier patients often face when diagnosed. Some of the factors that impact Type 2 diabetes management are understanding the diagnosis itself and learning about the factors that impact how diabetes is managed. In addition, to these factors, education and knowledge were investigated to learn how the form of education and individual versus group education impacts understanding. In this project, a comic book was created in Spanish to help Hispanic patients understand their diagnoses along with the symptoms and dietary changes that they must make. Resources are provided via QR codes to gain more information and concepts like carbohydrates and glycemic index are also reviewed to understand how the food they consume affects their blood sugar as well.

It has been established that high school students who are involved in extracurricular programs perform better in school than their uninvolved peers, thus allowing them to succeed at a higher rate in four-year universities

Performing arts programs in Arizona high schools have been facing significant budget cuts in recent years. It has been established that high school students who are involved in extracurricular programs perform better in school than their uninvolved peers, thus allowing them to succeed at a higher rate in four-year universities (Fredricks, 2012). This study aims to determine how involvement in Arizona high school performing arts programs can impact a student’s academic success at a four-year institution. Data will be collected through a survey with questions related to current college students’ involvement in performing arts in high school as well as their academic success at their respective 4-year institutions. It is expected that there will be a correlation found in the data between high achieving students and the skills that being involved in performing arts programs in high school provide. With this correlation in mind, the research will provide necessary tools for principals and superintendents to argue that performing arts programs add incredible value to students’ lives during and beyond their high school years.

Intellectual property (IP) is the lifeblood of the U.S. economy. Despite being an important motivator for innovation, IP laws and IP protections are largely unknown by most individuals outside of the legal field. The purpose of this work is to condense some of the most fundamental concepts in U.S. intellectual property law and describe them in an understandable way for non-lawyers. This thesis covers basic information on U.S. patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and the ways in which they impact both science and society. Additionally, this thesis discusses the need for better IP education and presents a solution to this problem in the form of a partly completed draft for an educational book. The book itself is meant to illustrate how the research of this thesis can be utilized in introductory educational materials while also demonstrating the potential for presenting IP law concepts in a fun and visual way.

The objective of the study is to examine the factors of a successful diversity program within four companies that attempt to break down the barriers contributing to the lack of diversity within the design and technical field of theatre. Companies in different regions of the United States (West, Midwest, South, and Northeast) were selected and analyzed for their fellowship, apprenticeship, internship, and educational program in order to see why it is successful and how it contributes to diversifying the design and technical field of theatre. The findings of the study provide a guide to the best practices used in establishing a design and production program that can contribute to diversifying the theatre industry.
