As technology's influence pushes every industry to change, healthcare professionals must move to a more connected model. The nearly ubiquitous presence of smartphones presents a unique opportunity for physicians to collect and process data from their patients more frequently. The Mayo Clinic, in partnership with the Barrett Honors College, has designed and developed a prototype smartphone application targeting palliative care patients. The application collects symptom data from the patients and presents it to the doctors. This development project serves as a proof-of-concept for the application, and shows how such an application might look and function. Additionally, the project has revealed significant possibilities for the future of the application.

Web-application development constantly changes \u2014 new programming languages, testing tools and programming methodologies are often proposed. The focus of this project is on the tool Selenium and the fairly new technique known as High Volume Automated Testing (HVAT). Both of these techniques were used to test the Just-in-Time Teaching and Learning Classroom Management System software. Selenium was used with a black-box testing technique and HVAT was employed in a white-box testing technique. Two of the major functionalities of this software were examined, which include the login and the professor functionality. The results of the black-box testing technique showed parts of the login component contain bugs, but the professor component is clean. HVAT white-box testing revealed error free implementation on the code level. We present an analysis on a new technique for HVAT testing with Selenium.

The purpose of this thesis is to understand peer-to-peer study habits at Arizona State University, and provide recommendations for improving these habits through online integration. This was done by researching current peer-to-peer collaboration literature, and analyzing online integration efforts. Interviews of Arizona State University students were carried out in order to discover specific insights on study patterns at this university. The scope of this research study was further limited to freshman and sophomore engineering, mathematics, and science majors in order to mitigate the impacts of external factors. The background research and study illuminated various flaws in existing peer-to-peer collaboration tools and methods. These weaknesses were then used to design two online tools that would be incorporated into a student resource dashboard. The first tool, called "Ask a Peer", provides a question and answer forum for students. This tool differs from existing products because it provides a mobile platform for students to receive reputable and immediate responses from their classmates. The second tool, "Study Buddy Finder", can be used by students to form study partnerships. This tool is beneficial because it displays information that is essential to students deciding to work together. The thesis provides detailed designs for both modules, and provides the foundation for implementation.

Despite the advancement of online tools for activities related to the core experience of taking classes on a college campus, there has been a relatively small amount of research into implementing online tools for ancillary academic resources (e.g. tutoring centers, review sessions, etc.). Previous work and a study conducted for this paper indicates that there is value in creating these online tools but that there is value in maintaining an in-person component to these services. Based on this, a system which provides personalized, easily-accessible, simple access to these services is proposed. Designs for user-centered online-tools that provides access to and interaction with tutoring centers and review sessions are described and prototypes are developed to demonstrate the application of design principles for online tools for academic services.

There exist many very effective calendar platforms out there, from Google Calendar, to Microsoft’s Outlook, and various implementations by other service providers. There exist many very effective calendar platforms out there, from Google Calendar, to Microsoft’s Outlook, and various implementations by other service providers. While all those services serve their purpose, they may be missing in the capacity to be easily portable for some, or the capacity to offer to the user a ranking of their various events and tasks in order of priority. This is that, while some of these services do offer reliable support for portability on smaller devices, it could be even more beneficial to the user to constantly have an idea of which calendar entry they should prioritize at a given point in time, based on the necessities of each entry and regardless of which entry occurs first on a chronologic line. Many of these capacities are missing in the technology currently used at ASU for course management. This project attempts to address this issue by providing a Software Application that offers to store a user’s calendar events and present those events back to the user after arranging them by order of priority. The project makes use of technologies such as Fibrease, Angular and Android to make the service available through a web browser as well as an Android mobile client. We explore possible avenues of implementations to make the services of this platform accessible and usable through other existing platforms such as Blackboard or Canvas. We also consider ways to incorporate this software into the already existing workflow of other web platforms such as Google Calendar, Blackboard or Canvas, by allowing one platform to be aware of any item creation or update from the other platform, and thus removing the necessity of creating one calendar entry multiple times in different platforms.

Mobile app development has been the fastest growing software development since the release of the iPhone in 2007 and the creation of the App Store in 2008. After the rise in popularity of the smartphone and mobile app development, businesses started to shift from browser-based software to mobile platforms. There are multiple reasons that any company would want to reach out in the mobile environment, including attracting new customers, creating a better experience, expanding their brand, being more accessible, and overall growth. Developers started to build new platforms that would make it easy for not only their own company but anyone else to develop new applications at a faster pace. Today there are three different ways to create a mobile application: a native app, a hybrid app, and a web app. At DriveTime, we spent time researching and developing possible options for how we could make a mobile application to expand our user involvement. Our conclusion was to use a hybrid application that would incorporate our already existing web app and relaunch it as a native app. I took over this project for DriveTime and planned to implement two new features for their mobile application. Using Apache Cordova, I dived into the Software Development Life Cycle to create and deploy a Rate and Review feature and Push Notification functionality. In the end, I was only able to implement the Rate and Review feature due to some unexpected delays in development. I assumed all roles of a standard Agile development team to understand all of the different aspects that go into planning, creating, and publishing software.

Charleston, South Carolina currently faces serious annual flooding issues due to tides and rainfall. These issues are expected to get significantly worse within the next few decades reaching a projected 180 days a year of flooding by 2045 (Carter et al., 2018). Charleston, South Carolina currently faces serious annual flooding issues due to tides and rainfall. These issues are expected to get significantly worse within the next few decades reaching a projected 180 days a year of flooding by 2045 (Carter et al., 2018). Several permanent solutions are in progress by the City of Charleston. However, these solutions are years away at minimum and faced with development issues. This thesis attempts to treat some of the symptoms of flooding, such as navigation, by creating an iPhone application which predicts flooding and helps people navigate around it safely. Specifically, this thesis will take into account rainfall and tide levels to display to users actively flooded areas of downtown Charleston and provide routing to a destination from a user’s location around these flooded areas whenever possible.

Investment banking is arguably one of the most competitive industries to break into because it is widely viewed as the premier finance career available out of undergraduate school. The industry

CDA is a mobile application that helps students, specifically those without a mentor, break into the competitive investment banking industry. Investment banking is arguably one of the most competitive industries to break into because it is widely viewed as the premier finance career available out of undergraduate school. The industry is unique in the sense that there are many unwritten rules on how to break into the industry. The large investment banks receive tens of thousands of applications every year, but only an extremely small percentage of those applications are viewed. This is a problem for a majority of students, who believe that simply having a high GPA and a passion for finance and submitting an application is adequate to get into investment banking. Many students who successfully make it into the industry are provided with programs and mentors to teach them everything necessary to do so, but I have noticed that there are many other qualified students that are not given these resources and are, accordingly, not as successful getting into the industry. This application is designed to provide some of the custom mentorship advice necessary to get into investment banking. I will approach this project as a business venture and will develop methods to monetize the services this program provides.

Palliative care is a field that serves to benefit enormously from the introduction of mobile medical applications. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic intend to address a reoccurring dilemma, in which palliative care patients visit the emergency room during situations that are not urgent or life-threatening. Doing so unnecessarily drains the hospital’s resources, and it prevents the patient’s physician from applying specialized care that would better suit the patient’s individual needs. This scenario is detrimental to all involved. A mobile medical application seeks to foster doctor-patient communication while simultaneously decreasing the frequency of these excessive E.R. visits. In order to provide a sufficient standard of usefulness and convenience, the design of such a mobile application must be tailored to accommodate the needs of palliative care patients. Palliative care is focused on establishing long-term comfort for people who are often terminally-ill, elderly, handicapped, or otherwise severely disadvantaged. Therefore, a UI intended for palliative care patients must be devoted to simplicity and ease of use. The application must also be robust enough that the user feels that they have been provided with enough capabilities. The majority of this paper is dedicated to overhauling an existing palliative care application, the product of a previous honors thesis project, and implementing a user interface that establishes a simple, positive, and advantageous environment. This is accomplished through techniques such as color-coding, optimizing page layout, increasing customization capabilities, and more. Above all else, this user interface is intended to make the patient’s experience satisfying and trouble-free. They should be able to log in, navigate the application’s features with a few taps of their finger, and log out — all without undergoing any frustration or difficulties.
