This thesis addresses the impact of algorithmic programming on judicial decision-making and the court-appointed attorney (CAA) process, focusing on the intersection of technology and judicial discretion at the Tempe Municipal Court. The primary inquiry of this thesis explores how algorithmic and digital programming, creating an automated system, can enhance equitable access to legal representation for indigent criminal defendants by making the CAA process more uniform. This project implements back-end algorithmic calculations to provide judges with system recommendations by using the Qualtrics survey software to create a digital version of the paper-based Form 5C. The "System Recommendation Tool" streamlines the process by presenting concise encapsulations of defendants' Form 5C responses and algorithmically derived recommendations regarding CAA qualification and contribution amounts. Significant disparities between the digital system's recommendations and judicial outcomes emerge through analyzing 80 Form 5Cs and their corresponding judicial decisions. These disparities underscore the need for further refinement of the digital system and the possibility of increased use of judicial discretion and consideration of additional factors beyond the Form 5C. While recognizing the system's potential benefits, this research emphasizes the importance of continuous testing and refinement and ongoing consultation with judges. Ultimately, the digital system is a complementary tool to judicial decision-making rather than a replacement.

The primary goal of our nonprofit organization, Plant-ED, is to deepen the average individual’s knowledge regarding sustainability and to inspire our users to engage in a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for sustainability. To accomplish this vision, we have created a digital platform where users can easily find information on upcoming events, activities, and alternative products that truly embody a mindset of sustainability. Our team will be the main and constant source of content for our website, however our users are also able to interact with the website through blog posts and subscriptions. Additionally, our platform has a section dedicated to explaining the impact of recycling and shows the devastating effects if humans do not take accountability for their choices and develop more sustainable habits. The ultimate goal for our website is for it to be a place where we can promote our partners’ products which are either alternatives to unsustainable products or companies who donate some of their proceeds to help create a greener world. The profit from the commission we receive from our partners and subscription services will be reinvested into expanding our digital platform and partnerships.

In the current digital marketplace, local small businesses and consumers encounter challenges in establishing an online presence and discovering trustworthy services respectively. The Loki mobile application, presented in this work, aims to reduce the disconnect between these parties through specific features and tools in a mobile application that address each party’s concerns. Small businesses and individual service providers such as barbershops, private tutors, babysitters, and house cleaners, often face difficulties garnering attention from their communities and executing social media marketing campaigns with limited financial and human resources. Consumers struggle to filter through the abundance or lack of online information about businesses to find reliable reviews and choose where to acquire their services. The Loki mobile application intends to serve as a forum for community-driven reviews through which businesses build their public image and enhance the visibility of their services. This comprehensive system encourages verified reviews that foster consumer trust and promote local economic growth. For an application of this complexity to be developed, the creation of aesthetic and intuitive user interfaces in frontend development is significant to the success of the platform’s mission. However, constructing a scalable, maintainable, and secure backend infrastructure is fundamental to transforming these static pages into operational interfaces through which the users can interact and reap the benefits. The intentional decisions for technologies and frameworks selected for the application development and design choices relating to the organization and structure of routes, entities, and controllers contributed to achieving this goal. Next, performance testing was conducted in a local development environment by simulating heavy-load conditions to determine whether the backend server could handle increased traffic without impacting response times and error rates. The limitations that were identified include the steps that can be taken for performance optimization and the need for cloud-based solutions before the application is pushed to production. The lessons learned from the initial performance testing emphasize the importance of building a backend infrastructure that is scalable and maintainable to meet the dynamic needs of small businesses and consumers. Future efforts for the Loki platform involve thoroughly evaluating the application’s functionalities and user experience and testing the application against the same performance metrics before being released to the app stores. Additionally, the development team of the Loki mobile application will prioritize refining existing features and introducing new ones based on real user feedback.

This paper delves into the strategies and practices employed by DJs (disc jockeys) in the electronic music industry to achieve success and maintain relevance in an ever-evolving landscape. In the rapidly evolving landscape of the modern digital world, both established and up-and-coming DJs face unique challenges in marketing themselves and creating a distinctive brand identity within the highly competitive electronic music industry. As the digital era continues to redefine the music landscape, traditional promotional strategies no longer suffice, and emerging DJs must navigate a complex ecosystem of online platforms, social media, streaming services, and live events to effectively promote their music and differentiate themselves from their peers. Through a comprehensive analysis of three DJs with varying levels of popularity, the study aims to identify the key factors contributing to their success, as well as areas for potential improvement. The objectives of the research are to understand the different approaches adopted by DJs, assess their effectiveness in engaging audiences and building a fan base, and offer insights into the evolving role of DJs in the digital age. The methodology involves a qualitative analysis of each DJ's career trajectory, including their musical style, branding, social media presence, and live performances. Additionally, the study incorporates survey data collected from Electronic Dance Music (EDM) fans to understand audience preferences and effective social media strategies, as well as interviews with DJs to gain firsthand insights into their experiences and perspectives. The results of the analysis reveal the diverse strategies employed by DJs to connect with audiences, ranging from innovative live performances to strategic social media engagement. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of developing a unique musical identity and leveraging technology to enhance the live experience. In conclusion, the paper underscores the significance of adaptability, creativity, and authenticity in the success of DJs, while also acknowledging the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital age.

Everyone can achieve greatness, and greatness comes in many forms. Our goal is to inspire individuals to find what they are great at and “find what makes you the GOAT.” TheGOATGene is a media/lifestyle company that provides people with the means to start an activity they can go try with no previous experience. Our Founders Lab Venture team completed the goal of inspiring people while giving them a community experience along with the materials they would need to go out and play spikeball and pickleball.

The Phoenix Culture United Project is a proposed community solution aimed at increasing the social cohesion between residents of Maryvale and the wider Phoenix area. Inspired by the Warrior Wall by the Glioblastoma Research Organization, a page designated to the names of individuals who have fought glioblastoma, Phoenix Culture United is designed to host a variety of submissions by Maryvale residents, including photos, videos, soundtracks and stories--any media that viewers feel is an embodiment of their culture or tradition. The site also hosts educational content including Maryvale's community history, past and current challenges, community assets as well as ways for those residing outside Maryvale to learn about and partake in community events. The site's central educational page centers the voices of Maryvale residents in communicating the essence, culture and pride of the community. The origins, primary- and secondary-research backed developmental process and evaluation procedures are discussed. While preliminary results of the evaluation process showed promising results that this concept may be somewhat effective and accepted by the community, future directions and potential changes are identified and discussed as well.
