Throughout the two semesters of the Founder’s Lab program, we developed and practiced our entrepreneurship skills by working to solve the issue of diversity and polarization. In the first semester, our task was to help a corporate entrepreneurial venture create and execute a marketing plan to diversify their target audience.

Throughout the two semesters of the Founder’s Lab program, we developed and practiced our entrepreneurship skills by working to solve the issue of diversity and polarization. In the first semester, our task was to help a corporate entrepreneurial venture create and execute a marketing plan to diversify their target audience. We worked with the lead professors developing the World War II Studies Master’s Program for ASU’s School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies. During our collaboration with the World War II program, we realized that their issue with finding diverse students stemmed from an institutional problem with cultural diversity and polarization.

While working with the World War II Studies program, we primarily conducted market research, which eventually led us to pivot into starting our own venture. The data from the surveys we created indicated that the target market for a World War II Master’s Program was too narrow, and only appealed to people with specific cultural backgrounds. We concluded that a simple marketing plan would not be able to solve the lack of diversity, and decided to start up our own business to combat the issue. In the spring semester we created Platter Chatter, a social venture dedicated to promoting diversity and cultural awareness through food.

We believe that Platter Chatter has future potential as a social venture due to its unique position in the market, as well as the diverse perspectives and social capital that we bring as founders of the company. Some unexpected events have disrupted our original plans for testing and launching our venture, but with future work we are sure that our company and product will be able to succeed.

With the rising growth of makerspaces in the United States, many are at the leading edge of innovation but are struggling to adequately keep track of and maintain the supplies required to make those innovations come to fruition. Due to most makerspaces being publically funded by local governments, universities, or designated grant money, approval for purchase and implementation of a proper inventory management system takes time. We have created an application called Introventoria that assists these businesses to manage their materials, tools, customers, etc.

After traveling to both Germany and Austria and attending traditional festivals such as Oktoberfest in Munich and the famous Christkindl Markets in Salzburg and Innsbruck, we were both inspired by our cultural and culinary experience. This also fostered confusion as to why German and Bavarian cuisine was an underrepresented food category in the U.S.

We completed in depth secondary research, focusing on environmental trends (social, economic, technological, political/legal, and natural) that affect the business environment in America, as well as produced a current market analysis of the American restaurant industry. This market analysis includes the discovery and evaluation of the history of the American restaurant industry, its evolution, its forecasted trends, and more specifically, taking a closer look at the nearly visible presence German cuisine establishments currently represent in America’s marketplace. By uncovering forecasted trends and determining the important presence the restaurant industry holds in America’s economy, we confirmed that designing and opening a German inspired restaurant is a great investment in an industry that continues to grow and prosper.

Before settling on a concept, we tested three unique German inspired models. Option 1, Prost, uniquely resembles a bar. Prost is described as a very casual and spacious beer garden placing an emphasis on quality German beer and small shared plates or appetizers. In contrast, option 2, Geister Haus is described as an upscale sit down restaurant that not only provides a wide selection of beer, wine, and spirits, but also an extensive menu with traditional German plates. Geister Haus is meant to provide its consumers with the authentic German experience. Lastly, option 3, Das Good is a modern concept that creates a fusion of German and American culture by providing traditional German specialties with a twist.

After conducting a survey testing all three concepts, the feedback we received from our test subjects (41 individuals representing diverse demographics) confirmed that Das Good was the most interesting German inspired concept that they would most likely visit. However, Prost was a close second, and many respondents suggested a combination of the two concepts; that is how the finalized Das Good restaurant was formed. Das Good’s business plan includes:
Company mission and values centered around diversity, community, and celebration
Target consumer profile otherwise known as Jackson Nelson that represents the specific demographic and psychographic qualities of a potential consumer we intend to attract
Competitive analysis of three carefully selected primary competitors (The Yard at Culinary Dropout, Brat Haus, and Pedal Haus Brewery) located within the Valley
Beyond the details of our business plan, we placed an emphasis on the marketing campaigns and design aspects of Das Good. For example, we researched three specific locations in which we will consider to invest, and developed a full menu including item descriptions and prices. We focused on physical evidence of store blueprints including indoor seating and outdoor patio layout and explained the value of our community centered open floor plan. Finally, we crafted a two-fold marketing plan that integrates digital exposure via local influencers and customer engagement via prize-worthy games featured at music, arts, and food festivals.

The paper serves as not only a resource that explains fundamental elements of marketing strategy and digital strategy, but as something that connects people with the resources they need to actually implement these strategies. By reading this paper, you can learn about web design and how it correlates with digital and business strategy, about key advertising channels and what the current best practices are for using these platforms, about social media marketing tactics, about age-old marketing disciplines like email marketing, and about trends expected for the future of digital marketing. ART VR LLC is a virtual reality art gallery software company. The company was founded by Phillips Andrew Koss IV in 2018. The goal of the company is to give art galleries the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in a virtual reality headset. This is achieved through the development of the industry changing Virtual Reality application called Viewing Room. The very nature of art and its personal connection to the buyer makes it difficult for both the consumer and the seller to properly showcase the artwork without seeing it in person. In the increasingly online world of fine art there exists a disconnect between the art seen available online and the actual feel of the artwork in a space. The dimensions of an artwork can never be fully captured by a photograph as well as the colors and beauty of a piece of art depend entirely on how it is viewed. This creates an issue for galleries who deal with clients from all over the world as they have the issue of trying to sell a piece of artwork whose size cannot be fully grasped. The current solution is to have either the clients come into the gallery to view the work, ship it to them to see for themselves, or even attempt to show them a picture of it through the internet or mail relying on their sense of space and imagination to see how it would look. These ways cost time, money, and most of all potential sales. The Viewing Room application is positioned to become one of the few virtual reality applications tailored towards fine art galleries. The Viewing Room once used in a gallery setting allows the gallery to upload their artwork into the headset and the user can view the art and change various setting from frame, to mat color, to distance away to properly view the artwork without having to see it in person. The timing of this endeavor is well suited for success as VR technology has become affordable for use in commercial stores and the art world is moving more towards a digital presence.

The On Par Golf team loves and respects the fulfilling game of golf and understands the positive impact it can make in the lives of others. With this in mind, On Par Golf strives to ensure golf ball equipment cost is not a deterrent of play and the game is accessible to all who wish to enjoy it. To better meet this objective, On Par Golf’s competitive differentiation strategy plan serves as a short-term strategic operational plan to determine business best practices and future courses of action. This plan is designed to be quantifiable and versatile to the changing business environment. Over the next three to five years, On Par Golf will be continuing in its growth stage in the business lifecycle, rapidly expanding to support annual volumes by 2022. This document focuses on two major business functions: Supply Chain and Marketing. Each initiative is designed to address specific challenges and create opportunities for improvement in their respective categories to better position On Par Golf for future competitive success. After a variety of internal and external analyses as well as competitive benchmarking, unique approaches were developed for On Par Golf to use to grow its market share and presence. This thesis discusses our path toward creating Cookies 4 Change (C4C), a student organization at Arizona State University. This organization works in tandem with the Community School's Initiative (CSI) at Children's First Leadership Academy (CFLA), a school for housing insecure K-8 students in the valley. This mission of Cookies 4 Change is to mentor 7th and 8th grade students of the CSI program at Children's First Leadership Academy in life, in entrepreneurial endeavors, in academic pursuits, and in fundraising to illuminate future potential in both education and careers beyond. To fulfill this mission, we researched three main fields: volunteer motivation, self-esteem in the classroom, and curriculum. This research helped us to first determine the best way to structure our organization to keep ASU students engaged, second to build the self-esteem of the middle school students, and third to create sustainable curriculum on the topic of entrepreneurship. In addition, to ensure the sustainability of Cookies 4 Change, we are developing strong and committed members to take the reigns of the organization when we graduate. We have created detailed pass along documents to complement this thesis and assist them in running C4C. Lastly, we discuss the potential scalability of Cookies 4 Change as a concept to different underprivileged schools in the valley and other cities with a similar socioeconomic makeup. By delving further into our story, the research, the organization, the curriculum, our future, and the scalability, we hope to detail the work we have done to help these students and how the organization will continue helping after we are gone.

After freelancing on my own for the past year and a half, I have realized that one of the biggest obstacles to college entrepreneurs is a fear or apprehension to sales. As a computer science major trying to sell my services, I discovered very quickly that I had not been prepared for the difficulty of learning sales. Sales get a bad rap and very often is the last thing that young entrepreneurs want to try, but the reality is that sales is oxygen to a company and a required skill for an entrepreneur. Due to this, I compiled all of my knowledge into an e-book for young entrepreneurs starting out to learn how to open up a conversation with a prospect all the way to closing them on the phone. Instead of starting from scratch like I did, college entrepreneurs can learn the bare basics of selling their own services, even if they are terrified of sales and what it entails. In this e-book, there are tips that I have learned to deal with my anxiety about sales such as taking the pressure off of yourself and prioritizing listening more than pitching. Instead of trying to teach sales expecting people to be natural sales people, this e-book takes the approach of helping entrepreneurs that are terrified of sales and show them how they can cope with this fear and still close a client. In the future, I hope young entrepreneurs will have access to more resources that handle this fear and make it much easier for them to learn it by themselves. This e-book is the first step.

The "Dutch Dukeout" is a memorial, community engagement venture founded by Scott Fitzgerald and Sam Minton. The event was also supported and facilitated through the help of a third party member, Dylan Bryant. The "Dutch Dukeout" will continue annually, as an opportunity for Brophy College Preparatory alumni and current students to come together and connect. This venture also exists to celebrate and honor the life and legacy of Fr. Harry "Dutch" Olivier, a former, prominent faculty member of Brophy. Additionally, the "Dutch Dukeout" aims to raise money to support the Brophy Scholarship Foundation, a resource for current Brophy students to offset the financial burden it costs to attend the prominent college preparatory. Foremost, the "Dutch Dukeout" flag football tournament provides a powerful way for Brophy Alumni to reconnect with their school. By communicating and participating with graduates from various classes, alumni have an opportunity to provide valuable life lessons and share personal stories with the youth, as well as bond over their shared experience at Brophy. For a school that is able to continually develop community leaders and social activists, the "Dutch Dukeout" provides a platform for collaboration and inspiration for everyone who participates. By raising money to support the Brophy Scholarship Foundation and providing an opportunity for alumni to engage in their community, the "Dutch Dukeout" is an event that truly embodies Fr. Olivier's values and beliefs. This thesis report documents the ideas, work and efforts that were completed to launch and then ensure the success and longevity of the venture. It also serves as an example for future social entrepreneurs who aim to make a difference in communities of their own.
