Frank Joseph Kush is best known for his outstanding achievements in football, both as an All-American player at Michigan State University and as the head coach of ASU. Upon completion of his two-year commitment to the U.S. Army, Dan Devine, Head Coach at Arizona State, offered Frank an assistant coaching position in 1955 where he served as an Assistant Coach until 1958 when Dan Devine left and Frank assumed the role of Head Coach until 1979.

Panel Discussion by J. Russell Nelson, Frank Sackton and Brent Brown on the history of ASU during the presidency of Russell Nelson, 1981 -- 1989. Recorded in February 2006. It was a wide ranging discussion including the birth of West Campus, the coming of the Cardinal football team, handling NCAA violations including protecting Jim Brock, moving the research agenda forward toward a Research 1 University.

Robert (Coach) Fleming was Professor of Music, Associate Director of Bands, and Director of Marching Band from 1974-2002, Coach Fleming grew up in a music family playing the flute. He briefly taught in high school, before moving to the University of Tennessee at Martin where he was band director for seven years. The interview touches on numerous topics and stories including winning the Sudler Trophy, performing at the 1991 Midwest Band Orchestra Clinic, conducting at Carnegie Hall, both ASU Rose Bowl appearance, etc. The interview ends with various discussions of the importance of the Band as a family

Joe Schabacker came to ASU in 1963 after being at the University of Wisconsin and UCLA. When he came to ASU, he was chair of the Management Department in the College of Business. Two years later he became the Vice President for Special Services at ASU. He was well known for his achievements in gymnastics. He was an administrator, professor, writer, management consultant and public speaker. He served as Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve for 33 years. He provided valuable guidance in the establishment of ASU West. One of the highlights of his career was when he was asked by President Durham at the last minute to speak to a large crowd of people who had come to ASU to hear Barry Goldwater (but Goldwater's plane was delayed) Joe then gave a speech as a substitute for Barry Goldwater. He served ASU for 25 years and retired in 1988.

An interview about the life and professional career of Linda Wells who was ASU's Women's softball Coach from 1989-2005. Linda was active in many sports and school activities from an early age, growing up in Pacific Missouri. She graduated from SE Missouri State and the University of Minnesota, majoring in Exercise Physiology. After graduating, she was the School's first full time women's coach. She was an All-American, professional softball player and coach. She came to ASU in 1989 as Women's Softball Coach. While there, she competed at the highest level, being involved in international and Olympic softball. She retired in 2005. Her team scrapbooks from ASU 1989 -- 2005 are available through the ASU Library Archives.

James W. Elmore will always be remembered as the founding dean of the College of Architecture at Arizona State University. Jim’s original intent in coming to Phoenix in 1948 was to work as an architect for Guirey & Jones. Jim came to ASU in 1949 to a non-existent department at then Arizona State College. He nurtured the department into a nationally prominent design school in less than 20 years. Jim was also instrumental in the design and development of the Rio Salado Project. After retirement from ASU, he continued to promote his design for aerial (elevated) transit and a city for Phoenix and greater Phoenix area.

Jim is a native of Nebraska receiving his BA degree in architecture in 1938 from the University of Nebraska. After spending six years with the US Army Corp of Engineers, he went back to school on the GI Bill and received his Masters in Architecture from Columbia University. This interview has Jim telling us about his road to becoming an architect, to becoming a teacher, developing the College of Architecture and his continued community involvement after retirement.
