Cybersecurity and research do not have to be opposed to each other. With increasing cyberattacks, it is more important than ever for cybersecurity and research to corporate. The authors describe how Research Liaisons and Information Assurance: Michigan Medicine (IA:MM) collaborate at Michigan Medicine, an academic medical center subject to strict HIPAA controls and frequent risk assess- ments. IA:MM provides its own Liaison to work with the Research Liaisons to better understand security process and guide researchers through the process. IA:MM has developed formal risk decision processes and informal engagements with the CISO to provide risk- based cybersecurity instead of controls-based. This collaboration has helped develop mitigating procedures for researchers when standard controls are not feasible.

As advocates, government information librarians speak up for collections and services within an institution, to peers and to administrators. We collaborate on projects that improve access and preservation for these resources. We pursue public policy advocacy that improves access to government information, which can include requests for changes in policy and practice that promote transparency, as well as funding requests that support information dissemination and preservation. We also advocate within professional communities for resources to support our work.

Jane Austen’s beloved naval brother, Charles Austen (1779–1852), had a significant impact on her literary career.We find probable traces of him in the male characters appearing in Mansfield Park (1814) and Persuasion (1818), and he is said to have offered naval vocabulary to help his sister revise the second edition of Mansfield Park (1816). In addition to his impact during Jane’s lifetime (1775–1817), Charles played a role in sustaining her posthumous celebrity, modest as it was at first. Two previously unpublished brief letters by him—and references to him in other correspondence—offer an opportunity to speculate about his role in supporting his late sister’s literary reputation.
