For my thesis, I researched the impact of the gut microbiome on people's lives. My thesis paper explains what the microbiome is, the microbiome-gut-brain axis, the effect of the standard American diet on the human microbiome, and why children might be the solution to fostering a more healthy and happy America. There is a direct connection between one's gut health and one's overall health and happiness. Since the microbiome influences many aspects of people's lives, it is important to take care of it and always protect it. Everything that people consume and expose themselves to will either enhance or destroy the gut microbiome. By bringing awareness of the importance of the gut microbiome to the general population and by providing better resources for Americans to cultivate a healthy microbiome, then more Americans will experience an overall greater quality of life.

This report is on an investigation of the 26Al-26Mg isotope systematics in the NWA 10463 angrite to constrain the timing of formation of this achondrite on its parent body. The analyses of the whole rock and mineral separates of olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase were performed using multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. From the isotope systematics, no evidence of live 26Al could be resolved, but an upper limit on the 26Al/27Al ratio of <1.6 x 10-8 was estimated. This upper limit corresponds to a model age of <4560.1 Ma, which is significantly younger than the crystallization ages of the volcanic angrite ages of ~4563-4564 Ma, but is consistent with the plutonic angrite ages of ~4557-4558 Ma.

Lean philosophy is a set of practices aimed at reducing waste in an industry/enterprise. By eliminating the aspects of a system that do not add value, the system process will be able to work continuously in a flow, and as a result have a shorter cycle time. With a shorter cycle time, less resources are diminished, and efforts can be properly distributed in order to achieve maximum efficiency. In relation, Six Sigma is a process that aims to reduce the variability of a system, and in turn reduce the number of defects and improve overall quality of a product/process. For this reason, Lean and Six Sigma go hand-in-hand. Cutting out non-value adding steps in a process will increase efficiency and perfecting the steps still in place will improve quality. Both aspects are important when it comes to the success of a business practice. DNASU Plasmid Repository would be a major benefactor of the Lean Six Sigma process. The process of cloning DNA requires great attention to detail and time in order to avoid defects. For instance, any mistake made in the bacteria growth process, such as contamination, will result in a significant amount of time being wasted. In addition, the purification of DNA steps also necessitates vigilant observation since the procedure is highly susceptible to little mistakes that could have big impacts. The goal of this project will be to integrate Lean Six Sigma methodology into the DNASU laboratory. By applying numerous aspects of Lean Six Sigma, the DNA repository will be able to improve its efficiency and quality of processes and obtain its highest rate of success.

It is a methodology that is used all around the world in industries such as finance, manufacturing, healthcare, the military, IT, and more. Many working

Lean Six Sigma is a methodology used to improve performance by reducing waste and process variation (“Everything you need to know about lean six sigma”). It is a methodology that is used all around the world in industries such as finance, manufacturing, healthcare, the military, IT, and more. Many working professionals seek to obtain some sort of Lean Six Sigma training to improve projects they are a part of at their companies. Arizona State University (ASU) offers a Green Belt Lean Six Sigma Certification program to both online and custom participants. These participants are expected to follow the coursework, complete ten quizzes, complete one final exam, and a three to six-page project report (“Lean six sigma green belt certification”). Over the years, the training material for the program has become a bit outdated in terms of real-world applicability and engagement for participants. This paper will discuss the methods used to improve the Green Belt Lean Six Sigma curriculum to make it more engaging to participants while also making the content more accessible to industry today. The lessons I have learned through this improvement process and their application to my future will also be mentioned.

This work explores the underlying dynamics of democracies in the context of underdevelopment, arguing that when society has not attained a substantial degree of economic independence from the state, it undermines democratic quality and stability. Economic underdevelopment and political oppression are mutually reinforcing, and both are rooted in the structure

This work explores the underlying dynamics of democracies in the context of underdevelopment, arguing that when society has not attained a substantial degree of economic independence from the state, it undermines democratic quality and stability. Economic underdevelopment and political oppression are mutually reinforcing, and both are rooted in the structure of the agriculture sector, the distribution of land, and the rural societies that emerge around this order. These systems produce persistent power imbalances that militate toward their continuance, encourage dependency, and foster the development of neopatrimonialism and corruption in the government, thereby weakening key pillars of democracy such as accountability and representativeness. Through historical analysis of a single case study, this dissertation demonstrates that while this is partly a result of actor choices at key points in time, it is highly influenced by structural constraints embedded in earlier time periods. I find that Ghana’s historical development from the colonial era to present day closely follows this trajectory.

Within recent years, the drive for increased sustainability within large corporations has drastically increased. One critical measure within sustainability is the diversion rate, or the amount of waste diverted from landfills to recycling, repurposing, or reselling. There are a variety of different ways in which a company can improve their diversion rate, such as repurposing paper. A conventional method would be to simply have a recycling bin for collecting all paper, but the concern for large companies then becomes a security issue as confidential papers may not be safe in a traditional recycling bin. Salt River Project (SRP) has tackled this issue by hiring a third-party vendor (TPV) and having all paper placed into designated, secure shredding bins whose content is shredded upon collection and ultimately recycled into new material. However, while this effort is improving their diversion, the question has arisen of how to make the program viable in the long term based on the costs required to sustain it. To tackle this issue, this thesis will focus on creating a methodology and sampling plan to determine the appropriate level of a third-party recycling service required and to guide efficient bin-sizing solutions. This will in turn allow for SRP to understand how much paper waste is being produced and how accurately they are being charged for TPV services.
