The goal of this paper is to describe the current understanding of how a human’s remaining senses are affected by the onset of blindness through physiological adaptations. The main focuses of this paper stem around the brain and how it adapts to blindness through mechanisms such as neuroplasticity. This paper will explore the increased acuity of both tactile and auditory processing as well as spatial navigation resulting from the onset of blindness. This paper will also explore the enhanced ability of the blind to echolocate as well as the mechanisms of homeostasis that underlie this ability. Finally, this paper will report on the lack of enhancement for the senses of taste and smell in humans after the onset of blindness and possible reasons why there are no observed increases in potential. It is the hope of the writers that this paper will cover the current state of knowledge on the phenomenon of adaptations resulting from the onset of blindness to such an extent that this information can be presented in a podcast format later on.

Levels of chronic stress in the United States related to work culture and working environments is a widely dealt with issue that is taking a toll on factors such as mental health and physical well being. High levels of stress can lead to issues such as headaches, high blood pressure, weight gain or damage to the immune system. Due to adults in the United States spending roughly eight hours a day, five days a week in their workspaces, it is relevant to investigate designing a space tailored to the way humans interpret their emotions and feelings about the surrounding environment: through the five senses - sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Findings suggest that there is potential to lower chronic stress levels by gaining a better understanding of the senses and how different stimuli affect the stress response and how those can be applied to the workspace.

"Shapeshifting through Words" investigates the history of literature from nonhuman perspectives to determine how people understand animal experiences of the world. I gauge this history through a taxonomy, compiling around 500 stories from nonhuman vantage points to mark trends in publication frequency, as well as number and types of perspectives extracted from the data. A trope and genre analysis follows, along with the hallmarks for what constitutes a nonhuman narrative. Finally, this knowledge is adapted to a framework in the form of a booklet in how to construct a nonhuman perspective based on its cognitive and sensory understanding of the world.

holistic experiences and brand expressions that are loved and trusted by

consumers and thus achieve brand loyalty.

Capturing the hearts and minds of consumers through exceptional

product experiences is one of the primary goals of any design agency, retailer or

Consumer Packaged Good (CPG) company today. Thousands of new products

launch every year and consumers are bombarded with advertising campaigns,

package designs, POP displays, product offerings and new product forms.

Breaking through the visual and verbal clutter by designing for the senses is one

of the key ways design firms and companies can engage with and create a

stronger bond with the consumer.

Connecting with consumers can be achieved through the maintenance of a

compelling brand positioning and the development of brand expressions

(products) that are holistically honest and express their positioning. Holistically

honest designs are designs that capture the senses and the essence of the brand.

Upon initial impression, the package immediately and innately “feels” right –

nothing seems amiss. This includes all of the senses: sight, smell, taste, touch,

and hearing combined with what the consumer knows or believes about the

brand to create a meaningful gestalt. All design touchpoints should be

considered in order to attain the ultimate goal of a holistic design: graphic treatment, typography, words, scent, form, color – any type of sensory stimulator

as these all influence perception and ultimately product and brand trust.

This study will employ qualitative and quantitative research approaches

to understand consumers’ synaesthetic responses to a brand’s expressions.
