I have always been fascinated by history and studied the histories of the United States, Europe and the Middle East in both high school and college. However, I never had the opportunity to fully examine my own history and past until now. This thesis is an exploration of my family's history and the narrative of our journey from Palestine to America. I seek not only to understand my family's take on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that so drastically shaped our lives, but also to understand the more quotidian thoughts, feelings, hopes, and dreams. I want to share stories that have not been heard before because the Palestinian narrative continues to be a contested issue by other competing narratives and it is important that an accurate depiction be recorded and distributed for the general public. I hope that this project will accomplish this task and encourage critical thinking of this long-standing conflict.

'My Great-Grandma Slept With Al Capone': A Theatrical Excavation of Family History is a creative project based on a true family story. My great-grandma was a nurse in the late 1920s and ended up having Al Capone as her patient. From this story, I developed a fourteen-page script and a concept trailer that discusses the heart and soul of my project. The goal of this project going forward is to create a limited series and/or a short play about my great-grandma's experiences as a nurse during Prohibition and The Great Depression. Artist's Statement: This art piece embodies the power of connecting with your roots and using that as inspiration to both become closer with family and create art that can be dedicated to those you love. There's something incredibly emotional about parading your heart and your family's heart for all to see, and I can't help but wonder how the Capones have felt about their father, uncle, etc. being constantly subjected to creative impersonations. Because of this, I strived to be as truthful as possible in my portrayals of these legends, while still inviting creativity in to fill the gaps. What results is an art piece that allows these humans to be who they are, wholly and completely, with all the ups and downs that come with learning how to live within your given circumstances. - Hannah Hutchison

This work of creative nonfiction explores the life of the writer's great-grandmother, Madge Richardson, and her sister Annie Richardson Johnson, as daughters of polygamist families and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the religious colony of Colonia Díaz, Chihuahua, Mexico. The piece depicts several highs and lows in the late 19th to early 20th century pioneer town, with an emphasis on the mass exodus and devastation that occurred during the Mexican Revolution.

Fruit King a personal and historical audio narrative of a Sicilian immigrant turned American success completed in conjunction with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University. This project was completed with the guidance and support of thesis director, Dr. Dawn Gilpin and thesis second-chair, Dr. John Craft. This thesis project has been executed in the form of a podcast, website and research report that recounts and relishes in the legacy and life of Joseph DiGiorgio, the once 14-year-old who immigrated from Cefalu, Sicily to Ellis Island, New York in 1888. He went from selling fruit in a cart and borrowing money from the bank to establishing the Baltimore Fruit exchange and becoming the director of the Maryland National Bank by 21 years old. His billion-dollar business, the DiGiorgio Fruit Corporation, became the world’s largest fruit grower of grapes, plums and pears in the 1940s, and he landed a feature story in Fortune Magazine in 1946. To me, he is my great-great-great-uncle Joe, but to the world, he is what the New York Times crowned him: the Fruit King.
