In this study, models will be introduced which are developed from historical UFC data and aim to predict the fight outcomes between mixed martial arts fighters within the UFC. The paper will explore multivariate linear probability regression analysis using variables which were provided and developed from a large dataset to effectively predict the probability of a fighter winning a given fight. It will analyze several multivariate regression models and compare, internally, the accuracy of each model and account for limitations within the models. Then, the model’s efficacy will be tested by recent UFC fights and adjusted to find a more accurate equation that maximizes profit in sports betting using implied probability from betting odds and comparing them to the model’s predicted probabilities.

This study examines the Instagram strategies of sports betting companies Bally Bet and BetMGM for reaching their audiences. The three research questions focus on what sports bettors value in these companies and on their Instagram pages; which strategies are effective for reaching the target audience; and the importance of popular culture references, celebrity endorsements and influencers in this messaging. The researcher utilized both quantitative and qualitative methods to identify the messaging categories used by both entities. Findings revealed that sports betting companies can strategically reach their targeted audiences on Instagram by successful strategies on Instagram by creating content that engages sports fans. Because the average bettor values entertainment over profiting on bets, messaging that includes popular culture and current events references to sport are essential for achieving relevancy with the fan base. These findings set the stage for future research which includes studies surrounding messaging variation across different sports, social media strategies related to trends, spending for acquisition costs, and efforts to encourage responsible gambling.

These marketing efforts raise serious ethical and legal questions, as groups of vulnerable people such as minors are being frequently exposed to sports betting and other online gaming.

Over the past few years, legislation legalizing sports betting in many states has been voted into effect. In the spring of 2021, Arizona legislators approved a bill that would legalize sports betting for anyone over the age of 21 in Arizona, and with Governor Doug Ducey signing the bill into law, September 9, 2021, marked the first day of legal sports betting in Arizona. Due to this new major avenue of business, sports betting became a very popular topic in both the news and social media, creating a buzz for new users in Arizona. This study will focus on the sports betting industry and the major companies involved in creating sports betting infrastructure in Arizona. Data will be collected and analyzed from multiple sources including company financial statements, news articles, and independent research focusing on the financial impact of Arizona sports bettors on the sports betting industry’s market profitability. It is expected that there will be a correlation between money gambled in Arizona and a rapid increase in profitability for sports betting companies. This study will provide an overview of the economic impact that sports betting had in Arizona in 2021, and look towards the future of betting in years to come.

Through a case study analysis of the 2023 MLB season, I compare the profitability of two popular sports betting strategies: arbitrage betting and positive expected value betting. Neither strategy proved exceedingly profitable over the duration of my experiment; however, both proved to be more profitable than casual sports betting. Not only were both methods of sports betting less profitable than expected, but sports books also have intuitive strategies to counteract advantage players on their platform.

We present a mathematical overview of these systems to evaluate their theoretical effectiveness in ideal conditions by presenting prior research and mathematical proofs. This review explores popular gambling strategies often believed to guarantee wins, such as card counting and taking advantage of arbitrage. We present a mathematical overview of these systems to evaluate their theoretical effectiveness in ideal conditions by presenting prior research and mathematical proofs. This paper then generates results from these models using Monte Carlo simulations and compares them to data from real-world scenarios. Additionally, we examine reasons that might explain the discrepancies between theoretical and real-world results, such as the potential for dealers to detect and counteract card counting. Ultimately, although these strategies may fare well in theoretical scenarios, they struggle to create long-term winning solutions in casino or online gambling settings.

This thesis discusses the implications of sports gambling from a perspective of addiction and promotions offered by sportsbooks. It discusses the background behind the recent legalization of sports gambling in the U.S., the potential result of gambling addiction, the different types of promotions commonly offered by sportsbooks, how these promotions relate to psychological phenomena related to gambling addiction, and how an ideal bettor could use these promotions to their advantage in order to best avoid addiction and losing excessive money. The data on the promotions used for analysis was collected primarily from DraftKings and manipulated in order to find expected returns, implied probabilities, and other relevant information. There is a discussion of how an ideal bettor could utilize the promotions commonly offered to consumers in order to make money on new platforms and theoretically avoid losing as much money by continuously betting in a strategic way.
