Much of this thesis deals with taking for-profit business principles and applying them to a non-profit institution. The ASU Art Museum is a public institution; therefore, it needs to measure success by how well it maximizes public benefit. Profit is the main gauge used for assessing the success of a business. Public benefit is more important for a museum because a museum remains a going concern regardless of whether money is made, as long as it receives the stipulated amounts in donations, grants, and endowment.
