Germany, a Western-European country famous for its beer, pretzels, and beautiful castles, is rated among the top countries in the world for quality public education and health care with a population of around 82,927,922 (U.S. News, 2019). While Germany is typically seen as a very progressive country, where do they stand when it comes to women in the business world? German women have the same rights as men, but do they have the same opportunities? My research aimed to find out whether traditional gender roles in Germany still impact businesswomen to this day. As an American woman, who one day hopes to work in sales in the private sector, I was curious as to what it would be like if I were to live in Germany. This was especially interesting to me as a Business Management and German student who also was an exchange student in Germany during high school. Throughout my research I gathered a plethora of information about traditional German gender roles, the current situation for German business women, and what the hope for the future is. (abstract)
For my thesis, I researched the impact of the gut microbiome on people's lives. My thesis paper explains what the microbiome is, the microbiome-gut-brain axis, the effect of the standard American diet on the human microbiome, and why children might be the solution to fostering a more healthy and happy America. There is a direct connection between one's gut health and one's overall health and happiness. Since the microbiome influences many aspects of people's lives, it is important to take care of it and always protect it. Everything that people consume and expose themselves to will either enhance or destroy the gut microbiome. By bringing awareness of the importance of the gut microbiome to the general population and by providing better resources for Americans to cultivate a healthy microbiome, then more Americans will experience an overall greater quality of life.
As the world’s population continues to readjust in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, shifts in work and travel patterns have changed drastically. The Pandemic proved that a lot of jobs can be done at home, and as a result the desire for leisure travel has increased significantly. Despite this, will employers acknowledge this greater interest for leisure travel from their employees as regressions in COVID mandates continue and individuals return to in-person work? Most developed nations around the world have some form of federal legislation that requires employers to offer their employees paid vacation time. The United States, in contrast, is one of the very few countries that does not have such legislation and leaves it up to the discretion of employers. This thesis will explain why the United States needs to guarantee paid vacation time and how it can benefit the people, the employers, and the government. It will examine the reasons why the United States government has delayed guaranteeing paid vacation time-off to all workers, as well as understand how paid vacation time-off and other paid time-off (PTO) options can benefit a worker’s overall health and their performance levels at work. This thesis will also examine how other countries have managed to guarantee paid vacation time and how such legislation has affected these nation’s economies, productivity, and psychology of their people.
This project includes a marketing plan for a local small business, Island Mochi. It examines the business and best practices in the industry to inform the marketing plan. The purpose of the marketing plan is to grow Island Mochi's sales by using digital marketing and public relations strategies. The components of the marketing plan include an executive summary, environmental analysis, SWOT analysis, customer personas, PR and marketing objectives, strategies and tactics, and an outline of the implementation and evaluation procedures.
Billionaires are a relatively new phenomenon, yet their influence is immense. Some billionaires hide in the shadows, and others are at the forefront of our society. With the advent of social media, the reach of billionaires at the forefront has expanded exponentially. Some sport their fancy lifestyles, some preach their views on the world, and some share what it takes to become like them. With 2.562 billion monthly YouTube users and millions of views for any video with or about billionaires, the reach the highly wealthy have is immense. So many are watching, raising two questions are the viewers watching with the intent of learning how to become a billionaire themselves or are they purely focused on entertainment value? Additionally, what purpose does speaking to the masses through YouTube serve for the wealthiest individuals in the world? This paper will attempt to answer these questions and dive deeper into the billionaire YouTube landscape. There will be a discussion of the immense power of billionaires, what it means to be one, and an analysis of a select few of America’s wealthiest individuals. Hopefully, this will give a better perspective on the wealth-based social media landscape.
Pediatric chronic pain is common and predicts risk for psychological and pain problems into adulthood. Biopsychosocial risk factors for the development of chronic pediatric pain have been examined, but the key health behavior of caloric consumption has not been explored. Adult and animal data suggest that caloric intake is positively related to chronic pain, and that adiposity and stress-related biological factors may serve as potential mediators. This study predicted that among children: 1) adiposity, flattened diurnal cortisol slopes, and caloric consumption are related to chronic pain, and 2) the caloric consumption—pain relation is mediated by elevated adiposity and/or flattened diurnal cortisol slopes. Methods: Twin children (N = 733) were drawn from the Arizona Twin Project sample. Measures included caregiver-reported caloric intake via five daily food diaries (Age-8); adiposity (composite of waist circumference, body mass index, body fat percentage) and diurnal cortisol slopes via three days of salivary cortisol sampling (Age-9); and caregiver-reported monthly chronic pain (Age-10). Results: Multilevel models (accounting for clustering within families) with sex, age, socioeconomic status, puberty, race/ethnicity as covariates, showed that caloric intake predicted greater waist circumference, which in turn predicted elevated chronic pain. However, adiposity, waist circumference, and diurnal cortisol slopes did not mediate the caloric intake-chronic pain relation. Discussion: Consistent with the literature, caloric intake predicted adiposity, and adiposity predicted pain in a diverse sample of children. More comprehensive assessment of behavioral (sleep, diet quality) and biopsychosocial factors (e.g. inflammation, cortisol; injury; catastrophizing) may aid efforts to prevent pediatric chronic pain.
New Leaf was founded with the mission to address the environmental, health, and sustainability consequences of paper production today. We explored the sourcing and foundations of paper needs, supporting our assumption that paper can be created from agricultural waste. We solidified a business plan using agricultural waste after considerable sourcing research and expert and consumerism input. We determined that using forest foliage that is a potential fire hazard from a national forest could be used as a source to make alternative paper as well as contribute to sustainability efforts.
Could you imagine a world without hot sauce? Unfortunately, hot sauce is a relatively new invention, and some people have had to experience and live without the wonders and flavors it provides. RAJAJE Sauce is a veteran-owned and family-operated start-up. RAJAJE Sauce originated in the heart of Mexico, known as Mexico City, where my family and I enjoy it with countless servings of tacos. My mother always dreamed of bringing this hot sauce to the market, but we weren’t sure how to go about it. There were so many questions. Was there a market for this hot sauce? Do other people like the hot sauce? Who would be our audience? How would we go about marketing this product, and how would the logistics of something like this work? Through extensive research, we found that there is plenty of room for the hot sauce industry to grow, giving RAJAJE Sauce plenty of opportunities to make a name for itself and become a household name with each new customer.
Devils Discard is an upcoming e-commerce platform whose mission is to make transactions safer for students first at Arizona State University and then at campuses around the world. When a student becomes interested in using the platform and makes an account, they are subjected to an information matching process to verify that that the student is currently enrolled. The student sees posts from students on his campus, and his or her posts are more likely to be seen by students on the same campus as the student. Unlike Craigslist and Offer UP, users do not post addresses. Instead, students post a location on campus to meet and sell/trade items. These mechanisms are intended to provide a safer place for students to make sales than other platforms could offer. The timetable for the launch of the platform at the moment is before May 2023. This paper will outline the business model this concept will follow in terms of its branding, consumer interaction, marketing strategy, and potential source of income and expenses.
