Bleeding control education has taken a much more prominent focus in saving lives over the past decade. While many non-medically trained civilians are receiving Stop the Bleed training, throughout their time as students, baccalaureate nursing students prominently struggle in pre-hospital emergencies. Not only would the implementation of Stop the Bleed education into baccalaureate nursing improve client outcomes, it can further spread and share the message of bleeding control, as well as enhance the student experience.
I did a literature review on how childhood trauma causes health issues in the future. Based on the information gathered, I did a clinical proposal for trauma informed care to help address this problem.
Tropical peatlands play a critical role in global carbon storage and greenhouse gas flux, yet the role of microbial communities in these ecosystems remains poorly understood. Methane-oxidizing bacteria (MOB) are considered an efficient biological filter for methane and can mitigate its release into the atmosphere, facilitating an ecosystem’s capacity to become a net sink. Prokaryotic gene amplicon surveys targeting a unique biomarker instead of a universal one (i.e., 16S rRNA) can reveal a more comprehensive analysis of microbial communities with ecological functions (i.e., methanotrophy). The alpha subunit of particulate methane monooxygenase (pmoA) is commonly targeted as a phylogenetic biomarker for both aerobic and anaerobic MOB. Here, we tested three different primer sets and investigated their ability to assess methanotrophic diversity across three biogeochemically distinct tropical peatland sites in the Pastaza-Marañón foreland basin (PMFB) in western Amazonia. The results showed that sequencing using 16S rRNA and pmoA genes revealed differences in MOB taxonomic identification in 21 tropical peat soils. Beta diversity analysis of pmoA genes suggests that site location is not the main driver of differences in MOB community makeup. This work offers insight into the strengths and weaknesses of targeted gene amplicon surveys using 16S and pmoA from tropical peat soils as a case study.
STEAMtank is a project beneath that falls under the umbrella of InnovationSpace, an initiative of the Design School at Arizona State University. STEAMtank is the product of the product of the honors thesis of Abigail Peters, who envisioned a K-8 STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) museum that was hosted on campus at ASU and was free to the community to promote STEAM education for underrepresented communities. STEAMtank is now in its second iteration, with six teams creating six attractions for the museum. Alongside these projects, presented here is a concept design for a museum exhibit focused entirely around chemistry, a particular branch of science that is lacking from all K-8 focused STEAM exhibits in Phoenix.
This project was a long form article talking about the struggles the competitive fighting game community had with poor online multiplayer during the pandemic and how rollback netcode aims to remedy that problem as well as provide easy online play for everyone.
This study examines the distinctions in participation styles of female students in classes where the majority of the students are male as compared to the participation styles of female students in female courses. I utilized metaphor analysis during qualitative interviews to unearth the motivations for female students’ reluctance to participate. Holding back from participating in class can negatively affect the understanding of students, resulting in lower grades and engendering anxiety in a classroom setting. By drawing upon the theories of communication accommodation theory, face threat, and muted group theory, this research was able to come to conclusions about what motivating factors lead female students to participate less than male students and distinguish which classroom behaviors enable them to share their thoughts.

Water scarcity has become an especially urgent problem in Maasailand. Maasailand is one of the major worldwide destinations for wildlife game drives in Africa. In this project, a recyclable car wash system is considered for design in Maasailand, Kenya. Background research was conducted to see the feasibility of the design. Water filtration methods such as coagulation were researched, analyzed and tested to ensure all the customer needs were met. The washing and collection aspects of the car wash were also further explored and designed. This joint project which is part of capstone is to also be implemented into the bigger project known as the Maasai Autotmotive Education Center and in support of the Mara Guide Association (MGA), an organization run by the Masaai people in Kenya.
