With the rise of global warming and the growing energy crisis, scientists have pivoted from typical resources to look for new materials and technologies that can aid in advancing renewable energy efforts. Perovskite materials hold the potential for making high-efficiency, low-cost solar cells through solution processing of Earth abundant materials;

With the rise of global warming and the growing energy crisis, scientists have pivoted from typical resources to look for new materials and technologies that can aid in advancing renewable energy efforts. Perovskite materials hold the potential for making high-efficiency, low-cost solar cells through solution processing of Earth abundant materials; however, scalability and manufacturability remain a challenge. In order to transition from small scale processing in inert environments via spin coating to higher throughput processing in ambient conditions via blade coating, the fundamentals of perovskite crystallization must be understood. Classical nucleation theory, the LaMer relation, and nonclassical crystallization considerations are discussed to provide a mechanism by which gellan gum, a nontoxic biopolymer from the food industry, has enabled quality halide perovskite thin films. Specifically, this research aims to study the effects of gellan gum in improving perovskite manufacturability by controlling crystallization through indirect alteration of evaporation and supersaturation rates by modifying fluid dynamics and the free energy associated with nucleation and growth. Simply, gellan gum controls crystallization to enable the fabrication of promising scalable PVSK devices in open air.

In this project, I analyze representative samples from three different fashion brands’ sustainability-related informational materials provided to the public through their websites, annual reports, and clothing tags that promote the company’s environmental initiatives. The three companies were chosen because they each represent global fashion- they are all extremely large, popular, and prevalent brands. These materials are evaluated against three frameworks for identifying deceptive greenwashing claims. I identify instances in which these frameworks are successful in categorizing deceptive claims from these companies as well as instances in which they appear to be vulnerable. To address the vulnerabilities I discover in the three existing frameworks for identifying greenwashing, I propose six new guidelines to be used in conjunction with these frameworks that will help to ensure that consumers can have a more ample toolbox to identify deceptive sustainability claims.

The app uses a 4-part circle system where users track their everyday progress in the following areas: diet, exercise, development, and mental wellness. Users can form groups with friends and family members

Through Founders Lab, our group ideated an innovative new way for people to track their health and wellness. The app uses a 4-part circle system where users track their everyday progress in the following areas: diet, exercise, development, and mental wellness. Users can form groups with friends and family members to provide support to one another. Through tracking their daily activities, users can earn tokens which are redeemable for relevant discounts. The app also hosts a variety of ways for users to be recognized for their healthy routine such as challenge trophies, activity history, and other social features. Overall, Circle Up aims to improve the daily routines of individuals to propel them into a healthier lifestyle.
