Based upon personal involvement from August 2010 to July 2014 as a Marine Option Midshipman within the ASU Naval Reserves Officer Training Corps (NROTC), being a student of leadership training within my degree plan, and gender difference research I conducted, this creative project addresses potential issues that reside within the ASU NROTC and the ways in which the program overall can be changed for the Marine Options in order to bring about proper success and organization. In order to officially become a Marine within the Unites States Marine Corps, it is necessary for Marine Option students to fulfill Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Quantico, Virginia. As the first female to go through OCS as a midshipman from the ASU NROTC, I found that there is an inadequate amount of preparation and training given in regards to the gender differences and what is to be expected for successful completion. I will offer a brief history regarding the NROTC across the Unites States and the ASU NROTC itself. These subjects will cover the program layouts as well as the leadership training that is required and provided within it and the ways in which this is conducted. I will then compare and contrast this to the leadership training given to me within my study of Leadership and Ethics regarding the transformational leadership, gender-based leadership, and coercive leadership. Finally, I end my thesis with a reflection of personal experiences taken away from these avenues and offer recommendations to better equip the ASU NROTC program in having successful retention and success of the female Marine Option midshipman.

The Roller Derby Club at Arizona State University became a student organization in the fall of 2013. They became a practicing team known as the Derby Devils in the spring of 2014. This project documents the creation and development a collegiate roller derby team as they go from a student organization to an athletic team. Collegiate roller derby is still in its infant stages and therefore the purpose of this project is to provide a guide for future collegiate roller derby teams as well as other athletic teams.

This thesis studies the world governing body of soccer, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), by investigating its recent controversial past as a world-leading international non-profit organization. Through examining the organization's beginnings as well as its growth into a nonprofit goliath, this thesis assesses FIFA's actions compared to both the relatively relaxed legal standards in its home country of Switzerland as well as an established set of moral guidelines to analyze the organization's validity in today's complicated global environment. Topics include concerns surrounding FIFA's vast financial reserves, the organization's development programs, its treatment of minorities, and its efforts to prevent organizational transparency that may lead to legitimacy questions in the near future. In the end, assessments of FIFA's validity conclude that the organization falls somewhere between being completely credible and definitively fraudulent, as its actions seemingly are satisfactory legally according to Swiss laws and regulations on paper but questionable morally.

This project examines how civil communication can be beneficial in organizations and the work place. It examines how conflict, power differences, and incivility contribute to uncivil atmospheres and applies a framework of civil communication to address the issues. The analysis is based upon a third party's published description of an organizational narrative sample and the civil communication framework of civil listening, civil speech and civil actions are then applied. The goal of this project is to determine the relationships between communication and productivity, conflict and productivity as well as if civil communication can address conflict and organizational productivity.

The key to success is hard work and determination. Achieving success is always under construction. This project began as a simple analysis of the firm's progress, as at the time it was in desperate need of new clients and a marketing strategy to strengthen its visibility on campus.Through this evaluation, our team found that the firm was in an abysmal state and the previously noted problems were not the only issues of concern. From our research we found that in order for the firm to grow and become a successful student run consulting firm, there are several interorganizational issues that need to be understood and addressed. The intention of New Venture Group and the Consulting Scholars academic program is to provide students the opportunity to garner practical learning experiences. These potential opportunities are not taken full advantage of because of the afflicting problems that exist. The purpose of this thesis is to understand what problems exist within the firm and the next steps that should be taken to resolve them.

This thesis project will be investigating the interactions and organizational theory within the student housing market at Arizona State University. The focus of the project will be around the partnership that makes up many of the communities, the public company known as American Campus Communities, and the auxiliary of Arizona

This thesis project will be investigating the interactions and organizational theory within the student housing market at Arizona State University. The focus of the project will be around the partnership that makes up many of the communities, the public company known as American Campus Communities, and the auxiliary of Arizona State University Housing. The paper will analyze the organization through the four frames outlined by Bolman and Deal’s Reframing Organizations. These four are the structural, human resource, political, and symbolic frames. The paper will confront two main issues found in the organization. The first is the frequent turnover of staff. The second will be the separation between the departments, leading to unstable communication. Solutions will be proposed that could take some pressure off the problems that are identified. Compensation for staff and adjustments to summer living may allow retention to improve. Adjusted training and top-level management communication and interaction may improve the stark separation between areas of the organization. Analyzing these issues and solutions through the organizational frames allows us to better understand the reasoning behind and possible effects of any decision. This project has been very insightful, and I learned a lot with my studies and am proud to be a part of this organization and its mission to serve the students.

Examinations of trust have advanced steadily over the past several decades, yielding important insights within criminal justice, economics, environmental studies, management and industrial organization, psychology, political science, and sociology. Examinations of trust have advanced steadily over the past several decades, yielding important insights within criminal justice, economics, environmental studies, management and industrial organization, psychology, political science, and sociology. Cross-disciplinary approaches to the study of trust, however, have been limited by differences in defining and measuring trust and in methodological approaches. In this chapter, we take the position that: 1) cross-disciplinary studies can be improved by recognizing trust as a multilevel phenomenon, and 2) context impacts the nature of trusting relations. We present an organizing framework for conceptualizing trust between trustees and trustors at person, group, and institution levels. The differences between these levels have theoretical implications for the study of trust and that might be used to justify distinctions in definitions and methodological approaches across settings. We highlight where the levels overlap and describe how this overlap has created confusion in the trust literature to date. Part of the overlap – and confusion – is the role of interpersonal trust at each level. We delineate when and how interpersonal trust is theoretically relevant to conceptualizing and measuring trust at each level and suggest that other trust-related constructs, such as perceived legitimacy, competence, and integrity, may be more important than interpersonal trust at some levels and in some contexts. Translating findings from trust research in one discipline to another and collaborating across disciplines may be facilitated if researchers ensure that their levels of conceptualization and measurement are aligned, and that models developed for a particular context are relevant in other, distinct contexts.

This thesis will focus on increasing the engagement of members within the W.P. Carey Business Ambassadors. This was done by first analyzing the environments the organization exists in: Arizona State University and the W.P. Carey School of Business. Each of these organizations contextualize the Business Ambassadors, providing a structure for the organization to operate within. Next, the organization’s processes are analyzed. This provides a current status of the club to be used a foundation for systematic review. Through this review, it is revealed that members often do the bare minimum required for the organization. In fact, only a select few fully taking advantage of the events offered by the club. To fix this, the management techniques outlined in the thesis’ primary source, Reframing Organizations by Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal, are introduced as ways to assist managers in problem sectors or areas of opportunity. These areas of review are the Structural, Human Resources, Political, and Symbolic frameworks. Each frame is explored and described, eventually being contextualized with the Business Ambassadors organization. These frames then provide insights to ways the organization can invoke greater participation from its members. These solutions include investing in training and mentorship, fulfilling member needs, promoting leadership, and leveraging the symbolic strength of the organization. The paper concludes with next steps for the organization and ways the solutions can be put into action with respect to the club’s goals.

The General Embryological Information Service (GEIS) was an annual report published by the Hubrecht Laboratory in Utrecht, The Netherlands from 1949 to 1981 that disseminated contemporary research information to developmental biologists. The purpose of the annual report was to catalog the names, addresses, and associated research of every developmental biologist in the world. Pieter Nieuwkoop edited each issue from 1949 until 1964, when Job Faber began assisting Nieuwkoop. Bert Z. Salome joined the editing team in 1968 before Nieuwkoop ceased editing duties in 1971. Faber and Salome remained the editors from 1971 until the periodical's final year of circulation in 1981. The Hubrecht Laboratory, a national laboratory created to house a large collection of comparative embryological materials and loan them to interested researchers, sponsored the publication after World War II to facilitate international collaboration and prevent unnecessary duplication of work. The catalog of researchers and the scientific topics grew in number and variety as the field of developmental biology changed during the publication's thirty-two year history.
