This thesis is broken down into two sections. The first being market research and the second being the creation of the financial guide. The first section includes our primary and secondary data. In this section, we discover whether or not there is an actual need for a financial guide among college students, as well as the relationships among different variables that we included in our survey. The second section comes in the format of a financial guide that we have created. It includes topics that that our survey respondents feel most pertinent to them. It also uses the data we collected to emphasize certain topics over others in order to educate our readers and capture their attention as much as possible.

Data breaches have been on a rise and financial sector is among the top targeted. It can take a few months and upto a few years to identify the occurrence of a data breach. A major motivation behind data breaches is financial gain, hence most of the data ends up being on sale on the darkweb websites. It is important to identify sale of such stolen information on a timely and relevant manner. In this research, we present a system for timely identification of sale of stolen data on darkweb websites. We frame identifying sale of stolen data as a multi-label classification problem and leverage several machine learning approaches based on the thread content (textual) and social network analysis of the user communication seen on darkweb websites. The system generates alerts about trends based on popularity amongst the users of such websites. We evaluate our system using the K-fold cross validation as well as manual evaluation of blind (unseen) data. The method of combining social network and textual features outperforms baseline method i.e only using textual features, by 15 to 20 % improved precision. The alerts provide a good insight and we illustrate our findings by cases studies of the results.

Cancer has a financial impact worldwide. According to a study published by the American Cancer Society, “cancer accounts for 1.5% of global gross domestic product loss per year” (John & Ross, 2010). The legal and economic costs of death are not something normally addressed with patients prior to the occurrence of death. With an integrative approach, education may help reduce financial stressors for both the patient and family, while offering cost saving benefits to the facilities involved. Studies have shown that education pertaining to advanced care planning help to reduce hospital visits and the costs associated with the last six months of life. Integrating additional education in the form of legal and financial planning prior to death will benefit patients. This may benefit hospitals concurrently, by reducing hospital visits or length of stays, saving millions in Medicare costs to the hospital. Hospitals currently focus on the emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of the patient post diagnosis of a terminal illness. Education related to funeral planning, preparing a will, and financial preparedness need to be included in the structured patient education offered at facilities. Individuals that have a higher socioeconomic status are typically more prepared for the costs associated with death. Offering financial education will allow more individuals experiencing the terminal diagnosis to prepare for their impending death.
