The goal of this project was to create a card game that would quickly and easily allow medical professionals to learn important information. This project seeks to advance ways in which medical staff gain information about disease outbreaks through the creation of a card game which teaches players the proper steps and procedure to triage and treat patients who are suspected to have Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever, which was not done properly during the recent outbreak. To create this game, research was conducted on the information given by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the various steps to triaging those who were suspected of having Ebola. Various prototypes of the game were made and tested to optimize the win-lose ratio while still being an enjoyable game to play. This card game is fast-paced, small, and can be played either individually or with more than one person. It is loosely based off of Solitaire. This game has gone through three prototypes of the cards as well as a few brief testing periods. Through the methods and procedure used in this game's creation, it has been concluded that this method is a great way to easily teach players a proper procedure, and that this method of game can be applied to other disease breakouts and even to other fields where information must be learned quickly. Future steps for this game include improving the graphic art used in the cards, and continuing on to create a smartphone application.

The devastating 2014 Ebola virus outbreak in Western Africa demonstrated the lack of therapeutic approaches available for the virus. Although monoclonal antibodies (mAb) and other molecules have been developed that bind the virus, no therapeutic has shown the efficacy needed for FDA approval. Here, a library of 50 peptide based ligands that bind the glycoprotein of the Zaire Ebola virus (GP) were developed. Using whole virus screening of vesicular stomatitis virus pseudotyped with GP, low affinity peptides were identified for ligand construction. In depth analysis showed that two of the peptide based molecules bound the Zaire GP with <100 nM KD. One of these two ligands was blocked by a known neutralizing mAb, 2G4, and showed cross-reactivity to the Sudan GP. This work presents ligands with promise for therapeutic applications across multiple variants of the Ebola virus.

The purpose of this study is to discover the exposure and network patterns during the 2013-2015 Ebola Virus Disease epidemic. The author accomplished this by taking an opportunistic sample of news and academic articles, some of which may also capture cases untreated and therefore unrecorded by hospitals and treatment units. Most of the 315 cases came from the Washington Post, New York Times, and World Health Organization, and they consistently captured between 1-2% of WHO case numbers. The results show that of cases with known exposures, 53.6% became infected through contact with sick family members. Hospital and funeral transmission accounted for the second and third most frequent exposure scenarios at 24.6% and 12.9% respectively. The exposures over time imply that hospital and funeral transmission prevention efforts have been successful, but family transmission has remained common throughout the outbreak. Prevention initiatives should focus on families earlier in epidemics to help control EVD's spread.
