In Memory of an Emily is a piece of creative nonfiction and a short film that together detail the author’s experience with mental illness in the collegiate environment. In its 45 pages, Jackman begins to detail the realities of living with depression, anxiety, and anorexia nervosa. The piece includes five sections of writing, including a preface and four portions describing freshman to senior year. Each section endeavors to explore simplistic and purposefully cliché events common in young adult/collegiate life and juxtapose the banal nature of these events with the experience of the mentally ill. Her story endeavors to explore the emotional truths of pain and suffering, revealing that beneath her tender façade lies a very different existence, one tangled in eating disorders, panic attacks, and overwhelming sadness. While maintaining a story-like quality traditional to creative non-fiction, Jackman ventures to warn with a cautionary tale of pathologizing abnormality and exploring the long lasting effects of childhood trauma. Weaving careful storytelling into an exploration of the mentally ill mind, Jackman keeps the reader both terrifyingly close and far away, whispering painful secrets and then desperately running away with the truth. She speaks frankly of all aspects of life, ranging from far more mundane events, such as break ups and college rejection letters, to complicated issues, such as the suicide of her grandfather and her admission into an eating disorder facility. The author attempts to establish a balanced rapport with the reader, recognizing the need to maintain distance and elicit emotion simultaneously. Jackman writes In Memory of an Emily as a heartbreaking but authentic tale, playing with stream of consciousness and paralyzing emotional description. She opens the door and invites the reader into her mind so as to share in the physical and emotional discomfort of the storyteller, but then promptly slams the door once inside.

This research topic surrounds eating disorders and their growing prevalence in college and college-age students. It focuses on the online resources made available by universities to aid in the treatment of these disorders. College students go to the internet first when looking up health information, and this makes it crucial that universities are up to date with their online health and counseling information. The purpose of this research was to analyze the online presence for eating disorder treatment presented by universities within the Pac-12. Analysis was based on three criteria: content presentation, navigation and information. Of the 12 universities, no university supplied all the information subcategories listed in Table 1. However, six of the 12 universities had at least 50.00% of the information subcategories listed on their websites. Also, 58.33% of the universities identified eating disorders as a reason to seek counseling services. However, with only 33.33% having an eating disorder resource page, more needs to be offered on the universities' websites. This paper focuses on the relationship between modern beauty ideals in today’s society and its catalyzation and/or effect on perpetuating eating disorders in young females. Further, this paper utilizes a primary case study to propose a more accurate and modernized approach to disordered eating – specifically anorexia-nervosa. A review of the literature on modern beauty in the present day in association with eating disorders was conducted and further utilized in conjunction to conduct research on eating disorder symptomatology, the prevailing gaps surrounding disordered eating, a more renewed way towards recovery, and further recommended insights for external groups. Although much of the long-established research pertaining to eating disorder recovery stands at a general level to advocate traditional recovery methods, what still lacks is the increasing correlation between the vulgarity of modern beauty standards and its role in recovery. As evident through primary and secondary sources of literature, this paper attempts to address the growing gaps in scholarly research pertaining to the lack of recovery recourse and further delineates and analyzes a few research questions. With this being said, the case study in this paper arguably amplifies the strong reproach for a more relatable recovery discourse from an autobiographical point of view and advocates for additional research to be completed regarding diagnostic management. The findings of my research have resulted in a six-step recovery model for individuals struggling with disordered eating and will be further supported by documentary analysis.

In addition to caring for patients, he described the role of the posterior column of the spinal cord in paraplegia, and he was among the first to describe the conditions of anorexia and of hypochondria. He also researched the effects of thyroid hormone deficiencies in women who had malfunctioning thyroid glands. Gull's research on thyroid hormone confirmed that chemicals in the body directly affect health, and he contributed to the foundation of endocrinology, the scientific field for the study of hormones.
