Abstract My documentary is about the concussion detection study with Arizona State Football, Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), Riddell and the Barrow Neurological Institute. Football players voluntarily participate in the study that aims to identify a biomarker released from the brain to identify if a player has suffered from a concussion. The study uses blood, urine and saliva samples, along with head impact data from Riddell's Sideline Response System. The study is also focusing on the impact of sub-concussive hits and the effects. According to the Barrow Neurological Institute, 84% of respondents believe concussions are "a serious medical condition," and a third of Valley parents will not let their children play football. I interviewed an ASU football player who participated in the study and found out about his experiences with concussions. The severity of concussions has received a lot of attention in recent years, and this study hopes to mitigate concussions symptoms and the fear of concussions. According to the 2015 NFL Health and Safety Report, since 2012 the NFL reported concussions were down by 35%. I interviewed the TGen leaders of the study and the neurologist at the Barrow Concussion and Brain Injury center involved in the study to find out how they plan to find a biomarker and use it to develop an objective way to diagnose concussions. An example of a possible objective test is a mouthguard that changes from clear to blue after a player sustained a hit that resulted in a concussion. The 2015-2016 ASU football season marked the study's third year of research. At the time of my documentary, the study had no timeline to release data.

This study looks to answer whether or not citizens have reason to believe the publicity statements from state government officials when speaking about gun-control laws during the time surrounding mass shootings. Citizens in America see the same, consistent pattern that politicians use mass shootings for, known as "The Shooting Cycle."

This study looks to answer whether or not citizens have reason to believe the publicity statements from state government officials when speaking about gun-control laws during the time surrounding mass shootings. Citizens in America see the same, consistent pattern that politicians use mass shootings for, known as "The Shooting Cycle." Here, we will research whether or not these politicians are continuing to keep the same voting pattern that they have had in the past, in terms of gun control. This case study uses quantitative research to discover that almost all state representative and senators have consistent voting patterns when it comes to gun control legislation, regardless of time distances around mass shootings. We will then seek out seek out public statements and relevant periodicals and media clips in order to determine whether or not these voting patterns align with the public's perception of a politician's stance on gun control. It also uses qualitative research to discover that publicity from senators and representatives that support gun rights have more consistency in their public statements than those who are either inconsistent or consistently vote for gun control legislation. This study creates opportunities for new research in voting patterns and political transparency on state officials and the significant effects of mass shootings on public opinions and public statements from state officials.

A multimethod research design was used to conduct research on Arizona State University's (ASU) branding strategies with regards to the role the athletics department brand plays within the scope of the entire university brand, and whether or not the football uniforms themselves are effective in communicating the desired brand messages to ASU's key stakeholders. The research is in the form of a case study, and is comprised primarily of information gathered in several personal interviews with important stakeholders and experts in particular areas (n = 9), as well as a survey distributed to key stakeholders (n = 429). It was concluded through the culmination of this research that, consistent with existing research, ASU models its branding strategies using a branded house approach, which means Sun Devil Athletics (SDA) is branded consistently with the university's missions, charter, and brand standards. However, SDA's unique role as a major prestige generator for the university as well as its non-academic focus means specific brand marks, such as SDA's "Sun Devil Bold" font and athletic pitchfork, are used solely within the athletics department. In order to communicate the university's messages, the football program, and football uniforms specifically, are regarded as some of the most important channels of communication because of the wide audience that is reached through the uniforms' visual representation of ASU's brand. Thus, it was found that a major emphasis is placed on football uniform design, and adidas, ASU's exclusive athletic apparel sponsor, is charged with designing the uniforms in such a way to meet not just the needs of the players themselves, but also the brand standards set forth by both SDA and ASU. The survey results established that the deliberate branding efforts put forth by SDA's partnership with adidas, as well as ASU's communication of the athletics department's role within the university, are effective in reaching key stakeholders and have been overall successful in communicating the desired brand messages to constituents.

College athletics are a multi-billion dollar industry featuring hard-working student-athletes competing at a high level for national championships across a variety of different sports. Across the college sports landscape, coaches and players are always seeking an edge they can gain in order to obtain a competitive advantage over their opponents.

College athletics are a multi-billion dollar industry featuring hard-working student-athletes competing at a high level for national championships across a variety of different sports. Across the college sports landscape, coaches and players are always seeking an edge they can gain in order to obtain a competitive advantage over their opponents. While this may sound nefarious, the vast amounts of data about these games and student-athletes can be used to glean insights about the sports themselves in order to help student-athletes be more successful. Data analytics can be used to make sense of the available data by creating models and using other tools available that can predict how student-athletes and their teams will do in the future based on the data gathered from how they have performed in the past. Colleges and universities across the country compete in a vast array of sports. As a result of these differences, the sports with the largest amounts of data available will be the more popular college sports, such as football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. Arizona State University, as a member of the Pac-12 conference, has a storied athletic tradition and decades of history in all of these sports, providing a large amount of data that can be used to analyze student-athlete success in these sports and help predict future success. However, data is available from numerous other college athletic programs that could provide a much larger sample to help predict with greater accuracy why certain teams and student-athletes are more successful than others. The explosion of analytics across the sports world has resulted in a new focus on utilizing statistical techniques to improve all aspects of different sports. Sports science has influenced medical departments, and model-building has been used to determine optimal in-game strategy and predict the outcomes of future games based on team strength. It is this latter approach that has become the focus of this paper, with football being used as a subject due to its vast popularity and massive supply of easily accessible data.
