Description
My thesis project is a 26 minute 46 second film that documents the Arizona State hockey team's first season as an NCAA Division I program. ASU hockey was formerly a club team that competed in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), but that all changed in the fall of 2014 after the program received a donation. The documentary explores the significance of the team, the emotion of the players and staff, and the results of the season.

Description
Each year, a select few minor league baseball players are chosen to attend the Arizona Fall League, a development league within Major League Baseball that hones the next generation of players, coaches, managers, and even umpires. These players make up the top talent currently in the minor leagues from each of Major League Baseball's 30 organizations. Of the thousands in the minors, just seven players from each organization can go to this extra six-week season, and learn to play alongside the best future talent the sport has to offer. On Deck: Inside the Arizona Fall League is a short documentary that looks at some of these players, as they continue their baseball journey that they hope leads them one day to the Majors. Description
This project focuses on techniques contemporary American poets use in their work. Ten different poetry collections are analyzed for dominant writing styles and techniques, which I then apply to my own poems, concentrating on modeling that particular poet. I then reflect on those poems through an evaluation of my writing process, how those techniques were implemented, and how they affected the poem. In addition to these reviews and reflections, I also wrote three articles about the literary community and what I've learned from my interactions in that community. All these materials are organized into a website, which shows the connections between the different writings via links and menus. Creating this website brings all the materials together to demonstrate my growth as a poet, writer, and designer. This heavy focus on poetry and analysis has helped sharpen my critical thinking skills and has better prepared me for a career in design and journalism.

The Culture of Study Abroad is a pre-departure resource for prospective American study abroad students. This resource exists in the form of a multimedia website containing expert advice, helpful resources, and true stories of American students and faculty directors who have studied abroad. Through creative non-fiction storytelling, interviews, research, and photographs, readers are encouraged to take full advantage of studying abroad as a way to expand their global knowledge and understanding. This website offers advice on the topics of cultural observation, homestays, traveling while abroad, safety, and foreign language, in an attempt to better prepare students for the unique cultural experiences awaiting them abroad. For my thesis project, I created a website, titled Noise + Heat, to serve as a guide to local music in the Phoenix area. The idea is that someone who is unfamiliar with Phoenix music can visit my site and easily be able to find the latest news, new music releases, live music venues, and be able to familiarize themselves with local artists. Description
In the 1950s-60s, the United States performed nuclear testing 60 miles north of Las Vegas. The prevailing winds carried radiation from those tests across the United States. It didn't take long for groups of people to begin developing cancer, possibly as a side effect of the testing. In 1990, Congress established a program to compensate downwind victims of the test site. But one portion of one county in Arizona was never compensated, despite the impact cancer had in the area. This documentary is their story. This project explores the importance of Holocaust education, and the need for a balance of survivor testimony and history in order to effectively educate students and inspire action. At the center of the analysis is the role of the survivor's testimony in the education process. The project discusses the use of Holocaust survivor testimony, and the problems with Holocaust survivor testimony, and how the intersection of oral testimony and education can successfully be utilized to introduce an emotional component in historical education. Holocaust survivors are passing away, and the current generation of students will most likely be the last to have the opportunity to directly interact with a Holocaust survivor. Students need to learn the important lessons that only Holocaust survivors can teach. The project consists of a research paper, journal, and documentary, and all three of these elements work together to communicate the importance of Holocaust survivors and Holocaust education. The core lessons learned from Holocaust survivors and Holocaust education cannot only be applied to better understand the Holocaust, but also to better understand past and current genocides.

This project consists of a website, presentation, and a series of documentary style short films shot about figure skating for my thesis in order to graduate from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University with a degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The website, created with Adobe Edge Animate, outlines how to become an elite figure skater and serves as a road map for beginners. The text of the website describes the structure of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program, what is expected of skaters at each level, and how skaters go about training and competing. The video series included on the website features athletes at four different levels in order to give the viewer a sense of progression through the ranks of figure skating. http://www.fthecrust.com/ Health is influenced by culture, ethnicity, age, gender, socioeconomic conditions, geography and many other factors. However, in an age of constant scientific evolution where new technologies and ways of determining health solutions are changing each day, finding proper ways to communicate these findings can be difficult. Change occurs when people are able to share common understanding. Being a part of a social group, being amused, relaxed and able to escape routine activities often allow people to learn and understand new concepts. Gluten is a popular new buzzword in the health industry that is not fully understood. Furthermore, gluten's presence in credible online resources is scarce. The objective of this thesis is to portray gluten in a way that is comprehensible and entertaining. Through web creation and site design, a credible online health resource, focusing on gluten, will be born. Research estimates 18 million Americans have gluten sensitivity. About 1 in every 133 Americans, about one percent of the population, has celiac disease. Around 83 percent of Americans with celiac disease are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed and a lack of resources would not seem to help that statistic. The population of people involved in gluten dietary restrictions is too high to not have ample resources. With social media's influence on the rise, more and more people are looking for advice from peers and experts online. Health is important and knowing how to take care of health with a click of a button is the gift of the modern world we live in.
