This dissertation examines the role that business counselors in a public entrepreneurial development program play in improving the Entrepreneurial Specific Human Capital (ESHC) of nascent and active entrepreneurs. Through multiple research methodologies, this study identifies the types of ESHC provided by business counselors then compares them to the types of ESHC commonly accepted as necessary for entrepreneurial success. The comparison reveals a number of insights for policy and research, most notably a minimum portfolio of skills necessary for entrepreneurial success. This study also examines the methods counselors use to help entrepreneurs acquire higher levels of ESHC. These methods allow counselors to assist entrepreneurs in recognizing and overcoming common barriers to business growth, and a model of entrepreneurial business growth barriers has been produced which depicts these barriers as conceptual-operational transition points for the entrepreneur. Additionally, this dissertation develops important information about the use of the business plan in entrepreneurial development, and uncovers a number of moderators in the relationship between the use of the business plan and entrepreneurial success. Finally, the study produces detailed information about ESHC which has potential for scale development, and highlights a number of insights for policy and research that have not been identified previously.

Unmanned aerial vehicles have received increased attention in the last decade due to their versatility, as well as the availability of inexpensive sensors (e.g. GPS, IMU) for their navigation and control. Multirotor vehicles, specifically quadrotors, have formed a fast growing field in robotics, with the range of applications spanning from surveil- lance and reconnaissance to agriculture and large area mapping. Although in most applications single quadrotors are used, there is an increasing interest in architectures controlling multiple quadrotors executing a collaborative task. This thesis introduces a new concept of control involving more than one quadrotors, according to which two quadrotors can be physically coupled in mid-flight. This concept equips the quadro- tors with new capabilities, e.g. increased payload or pursuit and capturing of other quadrotors. A comprehensive simulation of the approach is built to simulate coupled quadrotors. The dynamics and modeling of the coupled system is presented together with a discussion regarding the coupling mechanism, impact modeling and additional considerations that have been investigated. Simulation results are presented for cases of static coupling as well as enemy quadrotor pursuit and capture, together with an analysis of control methodology and gain tuning. Practical implementations are introduced as results show the feasibility of this design.

As Clive Humby said, “Data is the new oil” and is becoming ever more important to every industry, profession, and business with incredible applications like artificial intelligence and machine learning. Looking specifically at the Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) market segment, there is a significant gap in the use of data analytics. Only 15% of SMBs have a “data-driven” culture. Companies that leverage data to drive decision-making have seen increased revenue, profit, and employee output. Despite the benefits, SMB owners run into three main issues. First, a lack of bandwidth as time and human capital are stretched thin. Second, technical expertise as many analytics tools require coding expertise or knowledge of systems and tools which many SMBs do not possess. Lastly, many SMBs lack the finances to invest in costly tools or subject matter experts. Enterprise-level organizations will continue to invest in analytics leaving SMBs behind and increasing economic inequality. Our solution is DataMate, a Data as a Service (DaaS) no-code, low-cost, and low-time intensive platform designed to provide end-to-end analytics solutions for SMB owners. The platform allows users to automatically pull data from sources (ex. point of sale, customer relationship management, etc.), store data in a centralized location, and lastly, visualize data through dashboards to enable SMBs with data-driven decision-making capabilities. Once at scale, we will be able to create models and deliver advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Leagle LLC will be wholly owned by another LLC and run by two of its co-owners. One will earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Law in May of 2019, while the other holds a degree in Accounting and has over eight years of corporate financial experience.
Leagle LLC will operate in a very niche market with low barriers to entry. The information contained in the full business plan is highly valuable. This is the reason that only the summary of the business plan that was created as the honors thesis will be published. The details regarding sales forecasts, marketing strategies, and trade secrets are highly sensitive and could lead to the compromise of Leagle LLC’s future business and its parent company’s current business. Leagle LLC’s parent company currently works in a market closely related to the market Leagle LLC seeks to penetrate and it wishes to remain anonymous until this plan is realized.

LeagleCMS will be an online based application accessible from Leagle LLC’s website. Users will login to their account and be redirected to their dashboard, where whatever abilities assigned to them by the administrators in the target market are listed. These abilities include creating and editing user info, including administrator profiles and regular profiles. The ability to generate reports based on different data ranging from revenue collected to number of specific violations per month. LeagleCMS will also include an authoring system based off of its parent company’s current technology that allows users to generate a document from a pre-made template. One of LeagleCMS’s key values is operating in the cloud. All data will be stored on an encrypted cloud-based server hosted by Amazon Web Services. Users will access their data through LeagleCMS. This way, users can work from whatever operating system or device they choose.

REACT is a student-led venture which strives to address the healthcare disparities from geographic, linguistic and cultural isolation of the refugee community in Arizona/Phoenix. We will achieve this by Understanding the needs of the community, Engaging the community directly, Educating through the use of culturally appropriate materials, and providing access to supplemental Patient Care.
This venture is unique in that it is an interdisciplinary fusion between students, health professionals, and non-profit organizations empowering underserved refugees. A refugee is an individual forced to leave their country because of persecution, war, or violence. Once they arrive in the United States, they are forced to restart their lives, often with little to no financial assets, minimal English literacy, and a lack of transferable skills from their previous occupations in their home countries. In addition to these socioeconomic disparities, it is common for refugees to face health disparities. Consequently, refugees are one of the most vulnerable populations in our society.
Our organization provides value to the refugee community through our three key services. These are made up of supplemental resources, educational workshops, and clinical services. Our supplemental materials include resources that our clients will use after they have left our care to further improve their health and quality of life. These items include personal hygiene kits, informational pamphlets, and nutritional foods.
The educational workshops we provide specifically address identified knowledge gaps that impede the autonomy of our clients’ health and wellbeing. Several of the topics that we cover (but are not limited to) are diabetes, postpartum depression, nutrition, dental hygiene, AHCCCS, and nutrition. The clinical services that the clinic will provide will be supplementary primary care services that will encompass basic physical exams, A1C blood pressure checks, and vaccinations. These services all are aimed at alleviating the barriers to health that refugees face and ultimately improve their quality of life.
Our venture seeks to maintain positive and sustained relationships with our client segments through continuous community engagement. In conjunction with providing educational workshops and clinical care in the future, REACT continually engages the community by planning formal and informal programming with the refugees based on the needs and wishes of individual communities.

REACT generates these services through the work of medical students from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and undergraduates from Arizona State University. Our team brings together the experience from hundreds of hours of work in the community, collaborations with refugee community leaders, and the insight of professionals in the healthcare/social-work industry.
Further, our members have had extensive experience working with refugees, training in culturally sensitive practices, and delivering care to those that need it most. With the cost of healthcare exponentially rising, there is little hope for refugees to find adequate culturally competent healthcare. This leads to an increase in chronic diseases, preventable health issues, and increased hospitalization costs. Supporting REACT is not only an investment in the health of the refugees but the health of our entire healthcare system.

The Innovation Space program is a joint venture among the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and W.P. Carey School of Business in order for transdisciplinary students to develop a product that creates social change. LG was the sponsor for 2018-2019 class with the goal of creating comfortable cooling that is better for the environment. Throughout seven phases, the Sumo team developed three product ideas, selected one product idea, developed a business plan and implementation plan. The Ciel vent system was picked and tested for any assumptions made in the initial business plan. After adjustments were made to the final phase seven business plan, a reflection was completed about the W. P. Carey School of Business and Innovation Space experience.

While golf has been around for centuries, the technology associated with the game has evolved significantly in an attempt to improve golfers’ scores. Specifically, researchers at Arizona State University (ASU) have looked at the dimple patterns on golf balls. They found that various dimple shapes, sizes, and patterns can have a serious impact on the flight of the ball, thus drastically improving the golfer’s game. This patented technology is the basis of the founding of Dimple Tech, a golf ball technology startup. Dimple Tech was founded by three ASU students in an effort to license the patent to the major golf ball manufacturers (Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade, etc.). The ultimate goal of this startup was to build traction in any way possible, so the team made a video pitch that was sent to the aforementioned manufacturers. Although no traction came out of it, the project was a success as a market for this product was established and the company has a competitive advantage over other golf companies.
