The definition of a service animal is often misunderstood by the public. This makes life more difficult for individuals with disabilities who rely on service animals to function and navigate through society.

“Arizona Service Animals” is a creative project in the form of a website
( ArizonaServiceAnimals.com ) designed to provide the public with information,
resources, and true stories about service animals in the state of Arizona.

The site covers the different types of support animals, the training process, the legal rights of service animal handlers and businesses, and Arizona’s new law regarding fake service animals.

It also includes the stories of real service animal handlers and trainers who share their experiences and explain what they would like the public to know.

This paper provides context into the history of dogs and service dogs, as well as
information on the three types of support animals. It also includes the methodology of the project.

Locals only. An exclusionary phrase used to preserve the unique, lesser known aspects of a destination. Sunny San Diego's city defining local spots are in danger of being washed away by overwhelming tourism. This visual journey acts as a historical marker for the local destinations that exemplify San Diego's diverse culture. The website and book design outlines ten different places that play integral roles in the foundation of the city through photography and written stories. The places were chosen based off of their significance to the San Diego community, whether that be in relation to lifestyle, history or culture. The process for determining each destination was an initial discussion with San Diego natives to determine the top 15 places that are influential in the city. From there, research was conducted on each place to determine which ten places would best fit the visual and storytelling platform of the project. Once the destinations were determined, people representing each place were contacted to gather more information. Each destination had at least one, if not several days of shooting photos in order to gather an array of visuals that would fit properly into the design and goal of the final thesis project. The website design was built almost originally using wix.com. Using the photos and stories from the site, the final project was turned into a digital layout of a book that can be printed. The places that the book and website outline are Kobey’s Swap Meet, Hodad’s, Carlsbad Flower Fields, Sunset Cliffs, Windansea, Torrey Pines Gliderport, Spruce St. Bridge, Julian, Mount Soledad and Presidio Park.

This honors thesis outlines a method for teaching argument writing in the secondary classroom, including the elements of an argument based upon the Toulmin method, and diverse ways to help students who are all types of learners become engaged and receive the support they need. It includes all elements of argument, including evidence, warrants, backing, counterargument, claims, theses, the rhetorical triangle and the rhetorical appeals, including definitions and how they fit together in an argumentative essay. The largest portion of the project is dedicated to activities and resources for teachers based upon all of those elements, along with activities for the writing process as a whole. These activities are based upon the student's individual experience as well as various scholarly resources from leading professionals in the curriculum development field for English Language Arts. This is not meant to be an end-all be-all solution for teaching argument writing, but rather one of many resources that teachers can use in their classroom. This 30-page paper, including references, are condensed into an accessible website for teachers to use more easily. Each tab on the website refers to a different element or focus of the argument writing process, with both a definition and introduction as well as one or more activities for teachers to implement into the classroom. The activities are versatile and general for the purpose of teachers being able to include them into whatever curriculum they are currently teaching. The goal is that they can add argument instruction into what they are already either willingly or being required to teach in an easy and logical way. Herzog History is a retelling of the Holocaust escape of Godofredo Herzog and his family. This thesis project aims to provide a family history for the Herzog family, as well as a Holocaust story that you don't typically see, in a different way than a documentary or book. The creator took a journey with her grandfather to retrace the escape through the cities he and his family lived in. She used her knowledge in videography, editing and website development she gained from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication to create this project. There are many stories of Holocaust survivors, but this one is a personal history that impacts her family. I analyzed a non-profit's educational content website called SolarSPELL and proposed to redesign its interface. SolarSPELL is a solar-powered, offline site that can be accessed without wifi. It looks and behaves exactly like a real website. SolarSPELL is used by children and community members in developing countries across the world, including Africa and the Pacific Islands. The original site was not intuitive or easy to use, which deterred users with low technical literacy, lowering its effectiveness and defeating its purpose of providing educational materials to schools in the community, because users were less likely to use it to access educational content. The website was not responsive, meaning that it did not resize well to fit tablet and mobile devices. I redesigned the site's UX based on user feedback and expert advice to create wireframes that improved the site's layout and user flow to make it more intuitive. I pulled user comments from past surveys on the site and designed solutions to each of the user's complaints. I implemented a filter system and a universal search bar to improve the process of finding specific pieces of content. I designed prototypes using Adobe Illustrator to create the visual side of the interface. I designed my wireframes and prototypes with responsiveness in mind, creating versions for desktop, mobile and tablet. I also illustrated banners for the East Africa and Native American versions of the site, featuring landscape and wildlife from the respective regions. This interface redesign will be coded into a working site and distributed to communities around the world.

Barrett, The Honors College provides its students with many resources to succeed, and most information about these resources are located on the Barrett website. But due to issues with user experience and user interface design on the website, many students are not able to locate these resources, therefore, preventing students from taking full advantage of what Barrett has to offer. This potentially leads current students to perceive that being in the Barrett program does not benefit them, eventually leading to burn out and even withdrawal from Barrett. By improving the experience for Barrett students in the “Academics” section of the site, which is the section of the site Barrett students tend to have the most experience with, the Barrett site’s image (and therefore, Barrett’s image as a whole) will improve among students.
This project involved looking at the websites of fifteen other honors colleges and programs to compare their implementations of academic requirements information, advising information, and thesis/creative project information with Barrett's. These findings as well as general observations made about the Barrett site are discussed, and suggestions on how to resolve major issues are given. Through looking at the Barrett site from a student’s perspective, the goal of this project to provide a glimpse into what students find problematic about the site, and what students would do to fix these problems.

Song Sift: Angular Web App to Filter Songs and Create Customizable Playlists via the Spotify API

Although Spotify’s extensive library of songs are often seen broken up by “Top 100” and main lyrical genres, these categories are primarily based on popularity, artist and general mood alone.

Although Spotify’s extensive library of songs are often seen broken up by “Top 100” and main lyrical genres, these categories are primarily based on popularity, artist and general mood alone. If a user wanted to create a playlist based on specific or situationally specific qualifiers from their own downloaded library, he/she would have to hand pick songs that fit the mold and create a new playlist. This is a time consuming process that may not produce the most efficient result due to human error. The objective of this project, therefore, was to develop an application to streamline this process, optimize efficiency, and fill this user need.

Song Sift is an application built using Angular that allows users to filter and sort their song library to create specific playlists using the Spotify Web API. Utilizing the audio feature data that Spotify attaches to every song in their library, users can filter their downloaded Spotify songs based on four main attributes: (1) energy (how energetic a song sounds), (2) danceability (how danceable a song is), (3) valence (how happy a song sounds), and (4) loudness (average volume of a song). Once the user has created a playlist that fits their desired genre, he/she can easily export it to their Spotify account with the click of a button.

Most collegiate organizations aim to unite students with common interests and engage them in a like-minded community of peers. A significant sub-group of these organizations are classified under sororities and fraternities and commonly known as Greek Life. Member involvement is a crucial element for Greek Life as participation in philanthropic events, chapter meetings, rituals, recruitment events, etc. often reflects the state of the organization. The purpose of this project is to create a web application that allows members of an Arizona State University sorority to view their involvement activity as outlined by the chapter. Maintaining the balance between academics, sleep, a social life, and extra-curricular activities/organizations can be difficult for college students. With the use of this website, members can view their attendances, absences, and study/volunteer hours to know their progress towards the involvement requirements set by the chapter. This knowledge makes it easier to plan schedules and alleviate some stress associated with the time-management of sorority events, assignments/homework, and studying. It is also designed for the sorority leadership to analyze and track the participation of the membership. Members can submit their participation in events, making the need for manual counting and calculations disappear. The website administrator(s) can view and approve data from any and all members. The website was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in conjunction with Firebase for the back-end database. Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) tools and techniques were used throughout the development process to aide in prototyping, visual design, and evaluation. The front-end appearance of the website was designed to mimic the data manipulation used in the current involvement tracking system while presenting it in a more personalized and aesthetically pleasing manner.
