Water scarcity has become an especially urgent problem in Maasailand. Maasailand is one of the major worldwide destinations for wildlife game drives in Africa. In this project, a recyclable car wash system is considered for design in Maasailand, Kenya. Background research was conducted to see the feasibility of the design. Water filtration methods such as coagulation were researched, analyzed and tested to ensure all the customer needs were met. The washing and collection aspects of the car wash were also further explored and designed. This joint project which is part of capstone is to also be implemented into the bigger project known as the Maasai Autotmotive Education Center and in support of the Mara Guide Association (MGA), an organization run by the Masaai people in Kenya.
This creative project consists of a series of narrative and interactive videos that explains the Mediterranean Diet from both nutritional and cultural perspectives, its history, and shares the stories and insights of female farmers in Southern Italy. These women preserve native ancient varieties of edible flora and cultural practices that have evolved with the plants and the territory. This video series recognizes the women preserving their traditions and local varieties native to Southern Italy and highlights the importance of local place-based eating and foodways. The videos provide questions and vocabulary to engage with the audience and challenge them to develop ideas and ruminate on the material presented.

This is a multimedia project that is comprised of a short form documentary, a digital article and a reflection essay. The main part of this thesis project is a documentary shot, edited, voiced and produced by Nicole Shinn. The documentary focuses on the CROWN Act, a piece of legislation created in 2019 meant to ban natural hair discrimination. Since 2019, the CROWN Act has passed in over 14 states and 10 cities, including Tucson and Tempe, Arizona most recently. The six minute and 30 second long documentary seeks to educate people on the CROWN Act, what it does, what natural hair discrimination is, how this act has been impactful in Arizona and what national implications it has for legal protections against natural hair discrimination, as well as social acceptance of hair that is different from the Eurocentric standard. The documentary is accompanied by a digital news style article. The article focuses on the stories of a natural hair stylist in Tempe, and two activists in Tempe and Tucson who were instrumental in getting the CROWN Act passed in those cities. The article looks further into why natural hair is so important to the Black community, the struggle Black Americans have faced regarding this discrimination and how members of the Black communities in Tucson and Tempe worked to fight for the right to express themselves through their hair free of discrimination. Lastly, the reflection essay is meant to preface the entire project. To give the viewer a better understanding of how and why I pursued this topic and these mediums for my thesis/creative project. The reflection also walks through what I struggled with, what I learned and what this project means to me and other people that look like me.
For my project I held a fashion show for my brand, Kenzie Kay, as part of Paris Fashion Week and released a Spring collection for sale.
This thesis creative project involved the planning, preparation, and facilitation of a community-wide event targeting Diabetes Awareness. The event was hosted March 16, 2022, on ASU west campus and includes a PowerPoint presentation of the overall process. It also includes a reflection of successes, challenges, and experience gained from planning and facilitation. At the end, there is information analyzing how the event could be improved upon for the future, and a summary of key ideas discussed throughout the project. There is also a paper with the description of the presentation and an embedded link to the recorded presentation of the project during the defense.

What is the purpose of making dishes that take a long time to make? With such easy access to food nowadays, is there any reason to put in the effort to make things from scratch? By testing and learning about recipes that require a long time to make, I try to answer the reason behind all the effort. In doing so, three main reasons were found. First was the tradition behind the recipe. The second was the useful nature of preservation. The third is the tastes that are developed in the process.
