<dc:description>Arizona continues to innovate programs to help fund and support school choice among its
population. Recently, this included changes to the Empowerment Scholarship Account voucher program. Parents or guardians are now allowed to use the funds allocated towards their student’s education, towards their student’s enrollment in a private school, or towards their student’s education at home. To determine the impact of this expansion on Arizona’s homeschooling population, a short survey was conducted with 50 homeschooling parent/guardian volunteers. The goal of the survey was to determine what factors regarding typical classroom environment, structure, and curriculum were influences on these volunteers’ decision to homeschool their student(s). The survey also intended to explore how Arizona’s homeschooling population was influenced by the expansion of Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account program. Results indicated that a majority of survey respondents disagreed with the content being taught in a typical classroom environment and that the homeschooling population has been greatly benefitted by the Empowerment Scholarship Account expansion. Despite the great benefits of the Empowerment Scholarship Accounts on the population, the survey responses did not suggest that the expansion was a determining influence on most participant’s decision to homeschool. Additionally, the majority of participants stated that they would continue to homeschool their students without the Empowerment Scholarship Account funding. The results of this survey suggest that the expansion of Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account program has greatly benefited Arizona’s homeschooling population but has not led to additional parents or guardians deciding to homeschool their students.</dc:description>
