                  <dc:description>American Sign Language (ASL) is a visually based language that relies on hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movement to communicate. While ASL serves as a vital communication tool for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) community, its use in mixed-ability environments such as within inclusive classrooms often presents challenges for real-time communication and mutual understanding. This thesis explores the development and impact of an AI-powered ASL decoder designed to translate sign language into text, thereby facilitating communication between DHH and able-bodied individuals. The purpose of this study is to assess both the technical feasibility and human-centered implications of the tool, with a focus on reducing cognitive load, increasing student confidence, and promoting social inclusion in educational settings. The research draws upon publicly available studies and datasets to analyze social and technological barriers faced by students. These findings, combined with the technical design and implementation of the ASL decoder, suggest that this technology has the potential to meaningfully enhance accessibility and learning outcomes.</dc:description>
