<dc:description>Plastics are used everywhere, and over time they break down into tiny pieces called microplastics. These microplastics have been found in our food and water. Most plastics contain chemicals called phthalates, which can leach off and enter the human body. Phthalates are linked to various health risks, including hormone disruption. To understand how this affects college students, a survey of ASU students found that nearly all came into contact with plastic while eating. This suggests that students are likely consuming microplastics and being exposed to phthalates regularly through their diets, which could contribute to serious health issues.</dc:description>
