<dc:description>The Bakehouse Chronicles: Recipes to Guide Mental Health Success is a creative thesis project designed to introduce critical mental health concepts to children aged 8 to 12. Grounded in Piaget’s concrete operational stage, the series harnesses the formative power of chapter books and illustrations to engage young readers. The first volume, The Recipe, follows the adventures of eleven-year-old Maisie, who unexpectedly travels to a magical land of sweets just as she grapples with social anxiety at a new school. Through various baking-themed challenges, Maisie encounters obstacles mirroring her fears and learns valuable coping strategies, ultimately applying these lessons upon her return to the real world. Subsequent installments will explore themes of grief, loss, and obsessive-compulsive tendencies through the adventures of additional characters like Luca and Ruby. Informed by extensive research on both mental health and children’s literature, this project demonstrates how narrative can promote positive coping mechanisms, reduce stigma, and build emotional intelligence. With an emphasis on vibrant visuals, concise chapters, and age-appropriate language, The Bakehouse Chronicles aims to serve as an accessible resource for children, educators, and caregivers alike. By weaving practical psychoeducation into a fantastical setting, these books empower young readers to recognize, understand, and address their own mental health challenges.</dc:description>
