<dc:description>Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is underdiagnosed and often severe disorder that has a very typical impact on the mental well-being and mental health of young women and women in general. This review of the literature considers the complex relationship between PMDD and mental health with specific reference to its comorbidity with depression, suicidality, and anxiety. Despite its DSM-5 classification, PMDD remains underdiagnosed because its symptoms cross over with those of other mental disorders and there still remains lingering stigma regarding women's reproductive and mental health. This thesis addresses the biological, psychological, cultural, and social factors of PMDD in light of the critical need for improved diagnosis, culturally sensitive treatment, and increased advocacy. From the literature synthesis, the review illustrates gaps in clinical consciousness, treatment availability, and public consciousness, and emphasizes the importance of integrative approaches and policy change to facilitate greater support for women with PMDD.</dc:description>
