<dc:description>With the increasing presence of media in our everyday lives, the possible effects that this may have on developing brains, specifically adolescents, has become a topical point of discussion. Parents have a need to stay updated on the best practices for handling the ever-evolving mediascape and how it is related to the period of adolescence. In this literature review, research involving multiple theoretical frameworks and outcomes both positive and negative have been carefully studied in order to ascertain which findings are most relevant and have a need to be communicated. The review finds that there are conflicting findings regarding adolescent outcomes following media usage, with both positive and negative effects on adolescents being reported. However, the review also finds that many of the findings regarding associations between media usage and adolescent outcomes are small in significance and scale and may not be replicable, calling into question the applicability of these findings to the lives of everyday adolescents. Furthermore, the findings in the review inform a nuanced parental perspective of adolescent media usage and the recommended steps for parents to take regarding adolescents and media are outlined in the accompanying multimedia pamphlet resource.</dc:description>
