Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease occurs when triglycerides are stored in the liver leading to irreversible scarring and damage of liver tissue. Inside the liver, adipose triglyceride lipase is responsible for the breaking down of triglycerides and is regulated by the inhibitor g0/g1 switch gene 2 (G0S2). G0S2 is proposed to be one of the targets against drug design for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and more information is needed on the structure of this protein to aid in drug discovery.
