Patients receive electroconvulsive therapy every day in the United States but negative media representations of the therapy put doubts in the minds of potential patients as to whether or not they should go through with the therapy or not. The purpose of this study was to explore how health care providers perceive the influence of media on patient decision-making regarding whether or not to receive electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and how they might address the perceived effects of said media.
